Publisher's summary

The extermination of Earth is at hand. With his increasingly irrational leadership, Basil Wenceslas, chairman of the Hansa, has driven humanity into a corner. His punitive treatment of the Hansa colonies and the Roamers, as well as his refusal to aid an embattled Theroc, have made enemies for the people of Earth. Enemies that the Hansa cannot afford - not when Wenceslas is struggling against revolt by soldier compies, who decimate the military by stealing ships and slaughtering soldiers; and betrayal by the Ildirans, led by Jora'h the Mage-Imperator, who is secretly scheming with the hydrogues to annihilate Earth.

Now disparate factions of humanity must plan for their own salvation. Worldtrees allied with humans on Theroc have rallied hulking, thorny tree battleships. Roamers work with powerful water entities, the wentals, to seed planets everywhere with a growing force to challenge the hydrogues.

But when the final battle with the hydrogues is joined, who will aid the people of Earth?

Story great, reading not so much.

I loved the story but the biggest jarring issue was the way the narrator pronounced so many words and names differently than the previous books. I would think that it would be common to listen to how previous books were read and try and keep some continuity throughout.

The reader hasn't improved

David Colacci is awful. I have seriously thought about not listening to the last two books and actually reading the books myself so I don't have to listen to his horrible accents and pronunciations.

Narrator better suited for Scooby-do cartoons

I loved George Guidall on this series. David Collaci is painful to listen to. cliche voices, bad acting, cringe worthy performance all contribute to making a good story seem corny.

Keeps getting better!

The story keeps evolving and changing as we follow the developments in the spiral arm, becoming the masterpeice that is 'The Saga of the Seven Suns!'

Several threads woven together

in this book, Kevin J. Anderson weaves together several threads of the overall saga. Of course, we still have two more books to go. Naturally if you weren't paying attention, you might have missed those loose threads that still need to be woven into the tapestry of the saga.

it's an enjoyable and engaging read. Perhaps not great literature. But it is engaging enough that you don't want to put down this story.

Big action and satisfying resolutions

4.5 of 5 stars.

In this fifth installment of the Saga of Seven Suns, multiple story arcs converge.

The Wentals and the Verdani strike a closer alliance. The humans face multiple challenges and betrayals from many fronts. Big action culminates in the earth system. New threats emerge as old enemies are neutralized.

More understated that George Guidall’s narration of the first three volumes of the Saga, David Colacci’s performance is perfect for the material.
