Publisher's summary

Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now in Moon Island, Samantha Moon is hired to look into the mysterious drowning of a super-rich hotel tycoon. The death occurred exactly one year ago, at the family's annual retreat on a private island in the Pacific Northwest. Now, as the family gathers again, Samantha Moon is asked to find a ruthless killer - all while a massive storm bears down upon the small island. But there's another storm brewing upon Skull Island, a storm of the supernatural kind. Sam is about to come face-to-face with evil incarnate...a monster who will stop at nothing to possess her completely - mind, body and soul - and destroy all that she loves.

Getting irritating and far-fetched

By the 7th book you would think she would have learned to live with what she was now and not keep harping constantly on wanting to retain her humanity, we get it, but every book is peppered with self-deprecating remarks that are no longer humorous and to the point of being irritating. There's also a lot of repetitiveness, i.e., how weird she is, how she fakes eating, etc. She's also pretty self-absorbed.

The actual mystery was interesting, although there were some far-fetched components thrown into the story. And she should have really given her decision at the end a little more thought.

A Good Story, But Not My Favorite

Although I did enjoy this story, it was not my favorite in this series. I still gave it 5 stars because of my overall enjoyment of the series. I really wish the author would bulk up the stories a bit to give us a longer read. Dina Pearlman continues to do an excellent job as narrator. If you are new to this series, be sure to start from the beginning.

Major inconsistencies continue

Once again, the gems in tge medallions have changed. In "Christmas " the 2nd medallion was amethyst and then in "Games" it was all of a sudden Emerald. Now in "Island" it is amethyst again. Holy Inconsistency Batman!

Then in "Games", Max explained how there were 4 medallions: ruby, EMERALD, diamond and SAPPHIRE. Now, in "Island" the medallion in Samantha's chest is once again AMETHYST and the 3rd medallion she found was OPAL!?! WTF, does JR Rain not bother to verify what he has put in previous books? Very disappointing.

Since the diamond medallion is the only one still in existence by the end of the book, I 'm hoping it won't change to PEARL.

FYI, I checked to see if JR Rain was a male author and not the female author I had assumed because if all the inconsistencies between the books in the series as I have found male authors suck at being consistent. To my total lack of surprise - JR Rain is a male so that explains everything to me.

Story Told with much anger

The entire book was read by Dina Pearlman with such anger, bad attitude , sarcasms , overall the main character had a deep chip on her shoulder the way Ms. Pearlman read the book. I got tired of listening, however I finished the 4+hour book, to the narrator destroy innocent conversations between friends in the book. The rudeness and irritation how “Moondance”was portrayed in every circumstance she was in,
there was no need for it. I hope that the next book drops the attitude!

great story

I love this series and this book did not disappoint. Sandra Moon is a mom, private detective, and a vampire. She desperately tries to hold her humanity but it gets harder and harder. Narrator did a great job with the different characters. Can't wait for more. Highly recommended.

Another great vampire investigation story!

Moon Island has Sam and friend hired to stay with a family in a deviled private island for a family reunion. A year ago a family member died there and Sam is supposed to investigate while there. But she finds there is something evil there on the island along with the family!
Narration was great!
