Hvam IS Jane Yellowrock

The Heroine: At first look Jane is a tough as nails herione. She sees a job that needs to be done and she does it. But on the inside she is like everyone else, looking for a place to belong and someone to love. And she does all of this while figuring out how to balance her needs/wants with her beast's needs/wants. It's not always easy.

The Love Interest(s): I've not been on tean Rick from the begining. Sure he's sexy and tough but I feel like he is the safe guy that Jane decides to spend time with. I don't really feel any real connection between the two. Jane's secret and Rick's job keeps them from reaching the next level.

Now George, aka Brusier is the one that really tempts Jane but his the blood servant of the Master Vamp of New Orleans and Jane feels that she would come last in his life. But in Mercy Blade Jane starts to see that she's not 1st on Rick's list either.

I'm still holding out for Jane and Brusier to get together. I feel like he showed us he can take care of Jane in ways that she needs. But Jane is not one to easy fall into bed with someone. So it may take sometime for her and Brusier to finally seal the deal, if they do. (Fingers crossed)

The Plot: Like the other two books in the series, Mercy Blade is full of action, mystery and a touch of romance. There's humor, horror, blood and tearful moments.

The Series: I'm now 3 books into the Jane Yellowrock series and I'm still in love with the herione and the world. I can see me enjoying this series to it's end, which is not anytime soon. Faith Hunter stated in an interview that she is contracted for at least 3 more books which would bring us to a total of 9 with possibly more. I say bring them on! Fans of UF series with strong heriones that need some love in their life need to check out Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series.

Narration: Khristine Hvam IS JANE YELLOWROCK! She just knocks the narration out of the park from the timing to characters' accents. I won the next two books in paperback but I'm fighting the urge to get them in audio because I love this world on audio. I lost that battle. I now have them on audio.

JANE AND BEAST VS WEREWOLVES......OH MY!!

If you could sum up Mercy Blade in three words, what would they be?

Couldn't stop listening!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Angie Baby because of her innocence. And yet.....she thinks like an adult when things get bad and she doesn't panic.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

YOU BET I HAVE!! Khristine Hvam is one of my very favorite narrators. I have several series she has done, and I will pick a new author just because she narrates. People have said that she sounds the same with all her voices. I disagree. Having listened to this series several times, I do hear the difference. The Cajun does need some help, buy otherwise, she is wonderful!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

OH!! I cried and laughed.

Any additional comments?

I have read all of the reviews for Faith's books and I don't understand how anyone can bash her like a couple have. I know it is their opinion and they have a right to it. HOWEVER...don't be a hateful, especially if you don't have all the facts straight. Faith had over 15 books written before the Skinwalker series was started (she also writes suspense under the name Gwen Hunter). I'm just sayin'.

SEE JANE HAVE ANGST

Okay so for the last review I used this image of sitting on a porch and watching Jane ride one way, then back, then past again, then back... back and forth gathering clues and data. I'm using it again. Same search for clues, no one really telling her everything so she can solve a case, it would have been over quicker but... oh and lets make her fight a pack of werewolves whiles she's at it.

Sorry no. As much as I love a strong heroine, this is clearly the case of someone saying cat shifters are more awesome than wolf shifters. if we were being honest, Jane vs one werewolf, maybe even two, but a whole pack and she wins? No. I know this is fantasy but I need a little reality in this world that's been created.

Also, in the spirit of the love triangle, I believe we can safely say it's not a triangle if one of the guys goes off and cheats. Done. Hence the angst.

Still going on to the next book but I'm sensing a trend.

It's over for me.

Any additional comments?

This whole story has more to do with the love triangle, sex, romance, and seduction. I was hoping for a Mercy Thomson or Racheal Morgan but I am tired of listening to Beast talk. The first two books danced around the idea of a romance supernatural novel but this book jumps right in. Sure there are books more dedicated to romanc, and there are not as many sex scenes in here as others. I am just tired of the love triangle.

First Thought when Finished: Mercy Blade finalized this for me: I am #TeamJane #TeamBeast ! They are too good for both guys!

Overall Thoughts: Since I am late to the game with this series, this will be more of quick points about what keeps me going and what I am over with this series. I am over both boys! Seriously, Jane/Beast is better than both of them and if she is with them for more than Smexy times then she is settling (I reserve the right to change my mind later but right now anytime it is about the relationship--I kind of tune out). The mystery and the world building were phenomenal in Mercy Blade: once again! I am not sure how Faith dreams out these tricky situations but I am so glad she does. I would totally read a thriller by her because I am sure she would write a wonderful killer. Overall, I am still in love with this series but I do see the love triangle wearing on me!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Khristine Hvam / Length: 14 hrs and 43 mins

I may sound like a broken record but Khristine is rocking my socks off with her narration. In Mercy Blade, I have to say I was super impressed with her male voices. She nailed them!

Final Thoughts: I need to squeeze in book 4 soon :)

Good read in an interesting series

The third book in the Jane Yellowrock series does not disappoint in terms of story, suspense and plot. Faith Hunter is one of those writers who can pull off giving you the "who dunnit" early in the story and keep you reading to find out how they are caught and brought to account for their misdeeds. The only reason this book got four stars rather than five is that I find there is occasionally too much focus on background description and not a tight enough hold to the main action line, which I find a bit frustrating. If you can hang in there through the background commentary while the heroine is hanging by her nails, well, you're in for a great listen! I recommend the entire series of books, including this installation which leaves you with yet another mystery to contemplate until book four is released. Happy reading!

a sad decline in the great series

For those of us who fell in love with Jane yellowrock, it's a great disappointment to see her character turned into a weak woman who lacks the self-pride any hero should have.

the first two books showed her to be strong, but vulnerable in healthy areas. a shape-shifter who had not lost your Humanity. But this book is stomach-churning, when you realize that she is willing to put up with the faithlessness of her recent boyfriend, and prioritizes him over other alternatives. Excuses are made for his bad behavior, but what is concerning to me is the poor portrayal of what an actual undercover cop does. It isn't even implied, it's boldly stated that sleeping around as part of an undercover cops job. It most certainly isn't, and her putting up with it is as disappointing as it was to see Hillary Clinton put up with Bill Clinton's peccadilloes. And it shows her to be every bit as weak.

Good story.. terrible audio. Review about audio

Apologies to the narrator..(who did a good job) mainly the audio problems were due to production.

The audio on this was terrible! Have loved the other previous books in this series..but this one was excruciating to listen to.. and mostly I listened in the car and not earbuds!.. In too many places, the male voice would be SO LOUD.. would have to turn the volume down..then the female character would be speaking in such a soft voice, almost a whisper, that I couldn't hear what she was saying, so up goes the volume, and skip back 30 seconds.. then the male voice would about burst my ears!!! read the book. If I hadn't gotten it on sale.. would have returned it..
on afterthought, parts were like those commercials that have the volume at full blast..
still like the story line and author, but production was sub par.. will be going back to paper, or kindle versions
