Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward has blown away fans with her layered, tantalizing tales of sexy vampires and supernatural intrigue. In Lover Unbound, an immortal killer falls into the care - and possibly the arms - of a mortal surgeon. Suffering a horrific childhood as the son of a Bloodletter in his father's war camp, Vishous pledges death to members of the vampire-hunting Lessening Society. Vishous knows no love. He feels no emotion. He lives only to oppose the slayers. But after suffering a mortal wound, a human surgeon named Dr. Jane Whitcomb tends to him. Her ministrations, however, extend beyond his physical injury - and before long her tender hand has awakened feelings of pleasure that Vishous never dreamed existed.

I’m enjoying the series and just have to keep listening.

I’m sort of addicted to this series now and I m always ready for the next one. I’m not real critical because it is Fantasy writing. It’s nice to escape reality once in a while in an otherwise non-stop crazy life.

3.80. Liked more than the last book...

Overall the brothers I've been most intrigued by has been Zadist and Fury. It seems Zadist is slowly becoming the best character since each book adds to his character development whereas the other brothers and their mates are background fodder. It's hard to get excited for the other brothers when zadist and Fury are the only two continously getting development nuggets. Even Butch who has a direct link to V and his mate who is the only wife actively doing anything - this far- for the vampires falls into the fodder. I still enjoyed V's story though, atleast more than the last! I just kept thinking how perfect Jane would be as a new or additional doctor, how well that fits in the story, how she isn't a push over and how well she fits with V out of all the brothers and their mates. I'm not particularly a fan of what was done to her in the end but I will say it is refreshing that every brother so far TRULY has a unique story. I thought it was extremely mature how V and Butch discussed V's bisexuality especially since J.R.W hasn't been the most..... Elegant with her adjectives and similies when describing genders that goes against gender norms and sexuality in past books. I was very happy for Johns development and the fade virgins much needed rounding out. Because of her additional shaping I have a feeling Tor is gone for a reason. Fingers crossed for his story and Fingers crossed we don't have to deal with a Marissa #2 for Fury's story.

5 Lover Unbound Stars

So the fifth book is V and Jane and I loved this book just as much as the first time around.
Even knowing the surprises coming to me didn’t lessen this experience, not one iota.
V wants Butch but what I think is V wants what Butch has, happiness and love.

There is so much going on in this book I don’t want to give too much away because you really have to experience it.
Meeting and finding Jane is special and wonderful but with so much pain attached because he knows he can’t have what he wants. He already gave his word.

Jane was so happy with her choice to leave and start anew but then V came and changed everything for her. I loved her inner monologue it was funny and insightful.

These two together steam up the pages. I mean some of the most epic sex scenes I have ever read. We are talking holy HOT…
I loved getting to see more John Mathew! And all the changes he goes through. And Qhuinn and Blay how they really become a part of his posy?

Oh the tears…. The injustice! Then the sacrifice and the token of unwavering compassion. This book has everything you could want in a book. If you don’t know if you want to read Vishious’s book I am telling you READ IT! You won’t regret it.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Awesome Series

In book five of this phenomenal series, THE BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD, J.R. Ward tells the very emotional tale of Vishous, son of the Bloodletter, a very cunning stone-cold-hearted warrior devoted to killing the Lessers (undead beings who hunt and kill vampires). Not much can hurt a vampire warrior, but in one instance, Vishous had let down his guard and was shot from behind with a bullet that was pretty darn close to killing him. As Vishous was out on his own, no one from the brotherhood was nearby and Vishous was brought to a regular hospital where human surgeon, Dr. Jane Whitcomb was instrumental in keeping him alive. Rather a big mistake, it now meant that the brotherhood had to rescue him before the human world became aware of just what was lying in their hospital. But before they could effect a rescue, Vishous had unexpectedly fell in love with Jane and Vishous insisted Jane be brought to their stronghold to continue her doctorial ministrations, and discover for herself the feelings she had developed for her uniquely strange patient.

*** First of all I am having a blast reading and listening to this series. I fell out of sync with the books and had missed this one so I went back to fill it in and oh my, I am so glad I did. I think that so far, Vishous and Jane’s story is probably one of the most emotional and heart tugging books so far. First of all with Vishous discovering his long-lost mother; the long held emotional and physical scars of his childhood; and finally an absolutely heart-wrenching finale of maternal sacrifice.

Couple that with the ongoing day to day life of Vishous’s brother warriors and their Shellan’s and you have a complete and awesome family tale. Yes, a family whose love and devotion to one another is unsurpassed by most others.

What you will not find in LOVER UNBOUND are the many battles with Lessers that I found in the other volumes of this series. This book spent more time with the warriors focusing on their lives, their training, and for some like John - his coming of age. Each ‘brother’ warrior is fleshed out enough to give the reader an inkling of what is to come, and for me - I am anxiously awaiting John’s story, along with his friends Qhuinn and Blay.

Bottom Line: Ms. Wards unique band of brother warriors are fitted out in outrageously fabulous reads!

Love persists in odd ways

Vishous is a very interesting character. Full of sensuality in its sadistic way, loving and protecting, and above all loyal to his brothers. A sad childhood, which mark this young man with interesting ways to love. Live evolves for Vishous, showing cruelty with an odd way to keep living and loving his mate. A great story.

wow

The first book in the series is not the best but it gets better and this one is one of the best. V and butch are the best characters. I wish the author would make them sound their age but the stories are so amazing.

mispronunciation

Absolutely love this series and enjoy getting lost in my listening. For the first time in this entire series, I have a negative comment. Dear narrator: I am not sure why you have all of a sudden begun pronouncing words incorrectly. Words such as amphitheater and sympath having their p's anunciated as f's and pinged sounded as hinged instead of as dinged. It is my hope that in the next books in the series that I do not find myself cringing as common words are mispoken. Thank you for an otherwise vastly enjoyable experience.
