Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward has blown away fans with her layered, tantalizing tales of sexy vampires and supernatural intrigue. In Lover Unbound, an immortal killer falls into the care - and possibly the arms - of a mortal surgeon. Suffering a horrific childhood as the son of a Bloodletter in his father's war camp, Vishous pledges death to members of the vampire-hunting Lessening Society. Vishous knows no love. He feels no emotion. He lives only to oppose the slayers. But after suffering a mortal wound, a human surgeon named Dr. Jane Whitcomb tends to him. Her ministrations, however, extend beyond his physical injury - and before long her tender hand has awakened feelings of pleasure that Vishous never dreamed existed.

Being the bloodletters son says it all...

This is the 5th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The series is darkly emotional and extremely erotic and sexual. I really love this series and its twist on vampires but you have to take the brothers as you get them which is not always pleasant! I get the feeling that some of the other reviewers had no history from reading the first 4 books and read this book on its own. In this books case it would be hard to understand and like on its own. This book is about Vishous and Jane and their story together. Vishous is a pretty messed up male. You learn alot about his upbringing in this book which helps you undertand why he is the way he is. It is about control and giving it up and learning to trust another. Though Vishous might have bisexual tendencies from his upbringing you realize he has confused his love of Butch for something else. Since Butch is the first person he has had feelings for in 300 years this is understandable. This isn't my favorite of the BDB books but still an excellent story even if I cringe some in parts! JR Ward is an excellent author and I like the narrator as he has a very masculine voice. He has done all of the books. His inflections don't change much between person to person though, especially with the females.
Don't skip this book as like all the other books there are alot of other sub-stories going on and you are introduced to characters that will play important roles in the 6th book. Also, don't listen to this book without starting at the beginning of the series as they are all on audible now.

V will always be my fav

This is an excellent book. While some people get turned off by the "homosexual undertones" they must be missing the big picture. This story does wonders for V and Butch not to mention JANE!! It really is a great story and some ppl may not like the S & M but that is part of life for some people. You need to have an open mind to enjoy the brothers to begin with so don't stop here. This is my fav book in the series hands down!!!

Please read this book

The narrator killed this one. I bought this audiobook on sale because I just wanted to hear my second fav again. Jim Frangione is a great narrator but not for the BDB. His voice has a nice smooth sound but the slang of the BDB just does not sound right coming out of his mouth. The story is great and it's hot as hell but it's definently better read than listened too.

🌟🌟 5 Stars 🌟🌟

Oh Vishous!! This is my 3rd or 4th listen and he will always be one of my favorite Brothers but I'll admit, his story kind of fell flat for me. I think I had high expectations for him & Jane. From past books I expected him to be so much kinkier then he was and while I like Jane, I just didn't feel it. I did like the way they met and learning more about the vampires differences from humans. I also loved hearing the brothers reactions with humans. It makes you see really how much they could control them but don't unless it's necessary. With all BDB books there is always so much more going on in the book besides the main couples story. The "world" stories are what I loved about this book. JM has become a favorite of mine so I loved listening to his life changes and the other trainees.

Jim Frangione isn't for everyone but he's the only narrator I could image for the brothers!!!

Ahhhhh

I have to say that Vishous is probably my favorite. I do love them all but for some reason he is my pick. It's such a treat to re-visit this series. It is one to put in your library and keep coming back to. I do believe this is the top paranormal series ever written and I love every addition to this amazing story.

Poorly Edited Vampire Erotica for Bisexuals

Angie (Jamestown, TN, USA)

Boy, was I disappointed in this book!

First, let me address the audio problems. The editing completely sucks! You can tell where the recording stops and starts, even in the middle of a sentence. The voice goes off dramatically. The narrator will be doing a descent job, and then there's a drop in the volume and it's like he's reciting the classifieds. It does this through out the audiobook.

Now, let me get to the narrator. I've heard so much better! He can NOT do female voices, at all! He doesn't even make an effort to change the male voices when they're having a conversation, and you end up not knowing who's saying what. And like I previously stated, it's like he's reciting the classifieds when there's a fight or sex scene. With a little more training, he would be pretty good, but until he can learn to change his voice when the character changes, he's going to keep getting negative comments.

Now, let me address the book in general. Why hadn't anyone written a review telling us that there's a huge homosexual undertone to this book? Yup, you read me correctly! (not that there's anything wrong with that) It's just that when I'm listening to a romance, I expect my fantasy man NOT to be in love with other men! It was such a turn off. Plus, the whole dominatrics thing.......yuck. I want a little passion and romance.....just a little wouldn't hurt, at least in the beginning. Let me have a chance to get to know a character, before they start getting freaky. And then there's the ending of the book. I won't give away any spoilers. I'll just state that I did not like it, and I feel that not much imagination went into it.

I gave this audiobook 2 stars, because I liked how Jane's story began. How she and V meet is really sweet and interesting. The book had potential.
I can't believe that I passed on a $60 Diana Gabaldon novel for this, with my monthly credit. Uggg! So disappointing.

There Are No Words......

If you are a J R Ward fan this is another excellent installment in the Brotherhood Series (Book 5). Ward's storyline is unique and fresh as always. Interesting plot developments that leave you wanting more, more, more!!! If you have not experienced J R Ward's vampire world I highly recommend each and every installment of this series. I really like the narrator even though there is not much difference between female and male voices...I hope he continues with the series...have purchased each and every title in series, all are amazing, well worth the credit.

Not my favorite BDB book

I found this book difficult to listen to at times. V is not my favorite character and this was not my favorite book. Still loved the narration.
