Publisher's summary

Brandon Sanderson is one of the most significant fantasists to enter the field in a good many years. His ambitious, multi-volume epics (Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive) and his stellar continuation of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series have earned both critical acclaim and a substantial popular following. In Legion, a distinctly contemporary novella filled with suspense, humor, and an endless flow of invention, Sanderson reveals a startling new facet of his singular narrative talent, read by Audie Award-winning narrator Oliver Wyman.

Stephen Leeds, AKA 'Legion,' is a man whose unique mental condition allows him to generate a multitude of personae: hallucinatory entities with a wide variety of personal characteristics and a vast array of highly specialized skills. As the story begins, Leeds and his 'aspects' are drawn into the search for the missing Balubal Razon, inventor of a camera whose astonishing properties could alter our understanding of human history and change the very structure of society. The action ranges from the familiar environs of America to the ancient, divided city of Jerusalem. Along the way, Sanderson touches on a formidable assortment of complex questions: the nature of time, the mysteries of the human mind, the potential uses of technology, and the volatile connection between politics and faith. Resonant, intelligent, and thoroughly absorbing, Legion is a provocative entertainment from a writer of great originality and seemingly limitless gifts.

Amazing concept!

Not what I expected. The main character is what sold me on this one. The plot was okay though there were parts that I found stretching my ability to suspend disbelief. The supporting characters were okay, but the "aspects" of the main character were excellent. Amazing concept and I plan to listen to the next book in the series.

Interesting concept . . . . 😱

Not great, but not bad! A novel plot . . . 😱

5 stars is great (I rarely give this rating).
4 stars is good (given only to interesting and well-written books).
3 stars is OK (the usual listen I encounter on Audible).
2 stars is poor (and not worth the credit or the listen).
1 star is awful (and to be diss'ed and shunned and spread as thus through out the Audible Universe)!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 😱

He can never have any peace and quiet or be alone

Would you try another book from Brandon Sanderson and/or Oliver Wyman?

Maybe.

If you’ve listened to books by Brandon Sanderson before, how does this one compare?

Never listened to before. His voice is plesant enough.

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. Too short for a movie

Any additional comments?

It was okay and entertaining enough. Length was about right.

A nice surprise

If you could sum up Legion in three words, what would they be?

Psychotic, funny, explorer

What other book might you compare Legion to and why?

Reminded me of the Jump series

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, it was my first. Very easy to listen too. Well done.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did ... it is rather short.

I hope this is only the beginning

What a thought provoking idea! I hesitated to buy this book because it is so short (less than 3 hours), but it was well worth it. In truth this story felt like it should have been the pilot for a new TV show. Although the story is self contained and doesn't leave you hanging, it does leave you wanting more. I feel as though I am just getting to know Legion and his alter-egos. Previously, I've known Sanderson's writing for his epic fantasy (which is excellent), but he does a quality detective story as well.

The narration was also well done. Oliver Wyman does a good job of giving everyone a unique and consistent voice and he's easy to listen to.

Overall, I hope Sanderson does more Legion books.

Original

I am a fan of all of this author's writing. Mistborn is my favorite. You can depend on the story introducing you to a new way of looking at people and/or the laws of physics and nature we are used to applying to life. But some how Brandon presents it in a way that you get caught up in the story and for a while you stop questioning the premise. I would recommend his books.

Another great story by Sanderson

What made the experience of listening to Legion the most enjoyable?

The narrator had a great voice for each of the main character's personalities making it easy to distinguish who was talking.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh out loud at some points.

Any additional comments?

Great, short listen. It was nice to finish the story in two sessions and yet it felt like more story than those 2 hours could hold.

A very unique and interesting character

I'm almost always pleasantly surprised by Sanderson's unique perspective and unexpected characters. The main character in Legion does not disappoint. I really want to know more about this character and hope that Sanderson keeps expanding on him.
