Publisher's Summary

Kitty Norville, Alpha werewolf and host of The Midnight Hour, a radio call-in show, is contacted by a friend at the NIH's Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology. Three Army soldiers recently returned from the war in Afghanistan are being held at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. They're killer werewolves - and post-traumatic stress has left them unable to control their shape-shifting and unable to interact with people. Kitty agrees to see them, hoping to help by bringing them into her pack.

Meanwhile, Kitty gets sued for libel by CEO Harold Franklin after featuring Speedy Mart - his nationwide chain of 24-hour convenience stores with a reputation for attracting supernatural unpleasantness - on her show.

Very bad weather is on the horizon.

    "Kitty Being An Alpha"

Love the series and this book, at the core, was all about pack dynamics. Kitty hasn't been in the limelight as alpha of her pack since she took over at the end of Book 4. Nice to see her interacting with the pack as their alpha, and nice to see Ben backing her up. Cormac being back is icing on the cake.

    "fun distraction"

Like everyone else, I think the premise of this series is fantastic: a radio talk show for paranormal complications/emotional issues associated with the creation of new paranormals, paranormal/mundane relationships, and the transition of paranormals to open and productive members of society. This series explores the adventures of the werewolf talk show host, Kitty Norville. While this concept could go horribly wrong, Carrie Vaughn consistently writes witty and tight plots with interesting relationships. I recommend this series as a fun distraction. Marguerite Gavin produces excellent performances and is a good choice for this series.

"Book 8 and I'm still not bored!"

I really expected to have lost interest in the story line by now! A big NOT! I love the fresh twist and the new adventures - I'm not even finished with this audio yet and it has me on the edge and excited about what's going to happen next. Gavin is the greatest - I actually found this series by looking for works by Gavin.

    "Very touching story...loved it!"
If you could sum up Kitty Goes to War in three words, what would they be?

    Touching, entertaining, great!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kitty Goes to War?

I loved the whole story...but the epilogue was very touching, when they take Tyler to seatle andn introduce him to his new pack....Kitty did a good thing...

Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favorite?

Kitty as always!! I love Kitty....but Cormac is a good 2nd...so elusive...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have...it was really good...and unfolded perfectly....

    Any additional comments?

I love this series, and may have never found it if it wouldn't have been in the Halloween sale....I am so glad I did!

"Serious and Fun At The Same Time"

In this nitty-gritty war story, Kitty’s gotta deal with a few werewolf soldiers dealing with PTSD and their violent wolf sides while facing down a new bad guy who seems to be able to control the weather.

I was pleasantly surprised with my reread of this book. At first, I couldn’t really remember much about this novel except for the werewolf soldiers. However, the story about the soldiers was much better than I remember, and this is the book that reveals the story of Speedy Mart and Cormac’s association with Amelia.

The relationship between supernaturals and the government has always been a touchy one in Vaughn’s world. Actually, it’s a touchy relationship in most fantasy fiction that deals with the government at all. As humans, we don’t appear to be very optimistic about how our government would deal with a new sentient species, especially one with more power than we have. Says something about our general feelings toward our government, doesn’t it?

Anyway… this touchy relationship comes to the fore again as Kitty tries to deal with the Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology and the military in the case of three soldiers who were turned werewolf while overseas in the military. While nominally caring for the soldier’s rights as individuals, the military ultimately sees them as weapons; the Center ultimately sees them as research subjects; and only Kitty is fighting for their right to be seen as people. She manages to save one of the soldiers, which is as good as she can hope for, given the circumstances.

While all this is going on, Kitty also discovers that the owner of the Speedy Mart franchise is a weather witch who uses his many Speedy Mart locations as anchors for his storm magic. Cormac, now with witch Amelia in his head, is able to make a plan to defeat the storm headed Kitty’s way so Kitty and her pack can take him down. The cat that is Amelia is now out of the bag, and we’ll get to learn more about her in coming books.

"Really good addition to the series :D"

    4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story and addition to the series. Kitty and Ben are doing fine and living their life when Kitty gets a call from a Doctor she knows at the NIH's Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology. Kitty is informed that a werewolf that was in the special forces decided to make himself a squad of werewolves. Unfortunately, he got killed and the squad fell apart without him. A number of the members got killed in pack power/dominance fights and now there are only 3 still alive. The kicker comes when Kitty is informed that the 3 remaining special forces werewolves were being detained at a local base and escaped...so now they're headed into her territory and seemed bound to cause chaos and destruction.

Kitty and a few members of her pack are able to intercept the invading werewolves and enable to military to capture them. Once that's done though, Kitty is determined to help them if she can. While the alpha of the new werewolves isn't getting loose because of the men he killed, the other 2 aren't as far gone and Kitty convinces the military and the NIH to allow her to do what she can for them. While this is going on, Kitty also has a bit of legal trouble stemming from a show she did about all the supernatural occurrences that seem to take place at Speedy Mart convenience stores around the country. The owner of the company decides to sue her for liable and Ben suggests hiring Cormac to check behind the scenes for any info that could help counteract the suit. This turns up more than they were expecting and Kitty and her pack have some fast work to do to save the city from a blizzard to end all blizzards. Thankfully, things get worked out and Kitty, Ben and the pack are doing well in the end.

This was a really enjoyable story. I really love Kitty as a heroine and really like the Ben, Cormac and the supporting cast as well. Cormac finally told his secret about what happened to him in prison so I'm looking forward to seeing how Kitty reacts to that. This was a really good and engaging story. I'd recommend it and the series. :D

    "Great story, characters and narrator."

Love this series. Got here by following the narrator from Kim Harrison's "The Hollows" series. This is one of my favorites in the series.

    "The best book yet!"
What made the experience of listening to Kitty Goes to War the most enjoyable?

I just realized that Kitty's pack has been very discontented to this point. Considering what they faced, their reaction was normal. However, in this book we get to see the pack working together as a team. We also get to see and experience a full-moon romp from the werewolves' perspective. This was great and I enjoyed all of this action very much. But that isn't the best part. Cormac is back. I won't say more than that, but I love him and his role in this book is very interesting.

What other book might you compare Kitty Goes to War to and why?

I always compare books about weres to other were series. It is interesting to see how Kitty's pack stacks up next to the packs in the Kate Daniel's series (by Ilona Andrews) and the Mercy Thompson's series (by Patricia Briggs). Kitty ranks just behind the other two series...which is great since they are my very favorite series on werewolves.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Probably when Ben shows some jealousy toward time Kitty spends with Cormac. I'm very glad there is no temptation on Kitty's part (or Cormac's part) to be unfaithful to Ben. Anyway, this scene is cleverly written - and again it is from the werewolf point-of-view.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't cry, although a few sad things do happen. I did giggle quite a few times - Kitty just has a way of getting in trouble!

    Any additional comments?

I have already purchased the next book and look forward to reading it...right now!

    "Kitty the Werewolf ?"

This a fun series. It deals with race relations between vampires, humans and werewolves. Kitty is radio talk show host who uses her platform to enlighten others. She has a real sense of justice and honor that always gets her in trouble with the bad guys. There are some memorable, lovable, characters here that will really strike a chord with you. The narration is great. It is fun light entertainment
