Publisher's summary

When a 15-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people - kids, grandparents, soccer moms - all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more.…

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them.…

accents

I loved this narrator! however why does Micah have a Irish accent? It was a little confusing.

Back to the old Laurell K. Hamilton (for awhile)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

To some I would. I would be embarrassed to recommend it to others.

What other book might you compare Kiss the Dead to and why?

The first half of the book relates to the style of the first 5 book in the series. No metaphysical sex. The second half regresses to her more current style.

What about Kimberly Alexis???s performance did you like?

She is great! No negatives.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Rated XXX

Any additional comments?

I get bored with Hamilton's sex scenes and up the speed of the playback through them. The detailed description is not needed for the story and is repetitive.

Great story, mangled by a horriable narrator.

What did you love best about Kiss the Dead?

I've physically read every book up till this book and the book prior and while I honestly enjoyed the narrators depiction of Anita in the last book while she was away from home now that she is home with her menagerie of men...i want to throttle her(and not in a sexy rough way). She audibly rapes the listeners ears for over half the male cast(and all you long time readers know that the MALE cast has grown significantly). I particularly cringe like it's nails on a chalkboard every time she tries to use "her" Micah voice. She gave him this bad BAAAAAAD attempt at a woman trying to do a stereotypical Scottish accent and it pulled me out of the book like a high speed car impact every time he came into a scene. Love the series and if she's the narrator for the next one then I'm just going to go back to the paper version if I'm going to be able to enjoy it without pain again.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kimberly Alexis?

ANYONE

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The best long term supernatural lover/killer is back and this time the threat is too close to home...it's bad narration!

Well...depends on what you are looking for

So as an LKH fan and a fan of Anita Blake this one is a mixed bag for me. Let's start with the wonderful Kim Alexis and her performance...Kim gives a great performance as Anita, her emotion and is on point, what I took a star away for was part Kim's fault and part production. One issue was the disappearance and reappearance of Micah's Irish accent, in later books the accent is gone( which I'm fine with) the other piece which is not on Kim is the corny music and sound effects, note to the producer skip them, Kim does a wonderful job with cadence and dramatic pauses. As for the story this book lacks LKH's smart mystery, the villain is predictable and not the center of the story. The center of this story is Anita's polyamory and sex. That's it folks every other chapter is a new sex scene or Anita justifying her love life. I did enjoy the scenes with her cop friends and Bryce the new marshal as well as seeing when things went wrong with Larry but the story overall seemed to be how screwable Anita is, I love the character too much to hear about it. Crimson Death and Dead ice are more my style so really if you are into LKH's steamy works then this book is up your alley if you want more mystery then check out her latest works...hope this helps.

Polyamorous flexible?

This Anita Blake story has Marshall work and a threat against Anita’s many main squeezes. Micah and Jean Claude have their hands full trying to keep the were animals and vampires safe and bed hopping friendly. The preternatural branch of the police have their own issues with Anita. She likes the police work but are her personal choices causing too much drama with the humans? Does Jean Claude really have things under control in St. Louis?

Great, but continuity issue

Only part I didn’t like was that they listed Stephen’s girlfriend as Vanessa when it is actually Vivian.
