Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Admiral John "Black Jack" Geary earned his rank after being revived from cryogenic sleep to lead the Alliance to victory against the Syndicate Worlds. But his superiors question his loyalty to the regime. Now in command of the First Fleet, Geary is tasked with exploring the frontier beyond Syndic space, a mission he fears deliberately puts the fleet - and himself - in harm's way.

An encounter with the alien enigmas confirms Geary's fears. Attacked without warning, he orders the fleet to jump star systems - only to enter the crosshairs of another hostile alien armada. Ignoring all of the First Fleet's attempts to communicate peaceful intentions, this system's species sends its ships into battle on suicide runs while it guards the exiting jump point with a fortress of incalculable power.

Now, with a faction of his officers determined to eliminate this new threat at any cost, Geary must figure out how to breach the enemy's defenses so the fleet can reach the jump point without massive casualties - even though the enigmas could be waiting on the other side.

Almost lost me.

I've been hooked on this series and the previous series, but when the aliens turned out to be lizards, teddy bears, and hairy spiders you almost lost me... I thought the series had just gone down the drain with no return possible. Jack Campbell managed to pull the series out of the drain and give this book a decent ending. I will continue the series!

Another great yarn

Clear tactical writing. Deliberation about command decisions. Energizing battle sequences. A great space opera.

This is a highly enjoyable series

Very good alien battle sci-fi

As the author describes before the book actually starts, this book was written with a vast knowledge of battle formations and tactics. Therefore, the engagements were described in such detail that I could see them unfolding in my mind's eye. I enjoyed listening to the officers' thinking as to what the enemy might have been plotting and what their next move should be to retaliate. There were several subplots besides the battle scenes and the story was very exciting, but I think I would have enjoyed the book more if there had been just slightly less battle engagement and a little bit more character development and subplotting.

The narrator's voice is great, especially when he lowers it to be Jack Geary. So sexy!

Keep Them Coming!

I have loved this series all the way through. The addition of new aliens to the mix and the challenge to our prejudices and biases is great. This is an awesome new entry to the series and sets up so much more... I am anxiously awaiting book 3!

good, more of the same

I am re, listening to the series since I found the next book is out, but I dont recall the story line as it's been a while since I last listened. as always the narrator is well done. there are very few narrators that can do men and women's voices and you cant tell if the narrator is Male or female. but I had a hard time pegging the females as voices by a Male. the story line is good but some what formulaic. with minor plot differences. I thinking I.binged the lost fleet.storiez I'd get annoyed that it feels like a cookie cutter series but I was listening to Jack Campbell books spaced out. that gives it time to forget enough that the book to seems new. I'd recommend it as an easy listen with enough space battle to keep it interesting

Awsum Space 0pera & Aliens

I was wanting some space opera, fleet to fleet conflict, like airplane dogfight, or ballet... but I wanted somthing other to then human to human aggression. This is human-alien conflict with awsum space battles.. THIS HAS IT ALL.

More excellent adventure from Jack Campbell

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I started this series at the recommendation of Steve Gibson and would recommend these books without hesitation

What other book might you compare Invincible: The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier, Book 2 to and why?

I would recommend starting at the first book and buying them all.

Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Christian Rummel is a professional who is worthy of my respect. This is the class of narrator that brings the story to life. I don't hear the narrator, I just hear the story.
