Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Admiral John "Black Jack" Geary earned his rank after being revived from cryogenic sleep to lead the Alliance to victory against the Syndicate Worlds. But his superiors question his loyalty to the regime. Now in command of the First Fleet, Geary is tasked with exploring the frontier beyond Syndic space, a mission he fears deliberately puts the fleet - and himself - in harm's way.

An encounter with the alien enigmas confirms Geary's fears. Attacked without warning, he orders the fleet to jump star systems - only to enter the crosshairs of another hostile alien armada. Ignoring all of the First Fleet's attempts to communicate peaceful intentions, this system's species sends its ships into battle on suicide runs while it guards the exiting jump point with a fortress of incalculable power.

Now, with a faction of his officers determined to eliminate this new threat at any cost, Geary must figure out how to breach the enemy's defenses so the fleet can reach the jump point without massive casualties - even though the enigmas could be waiting on the other side.

Schwartz oops

For some reason the narrator (normally excellent) decided to change Dr Schwartz's voice and accent suddenly. It was incredibly confusing.

Foreshadowing galore

An other amazing book in this series. A lot of events later in the book where foreshadowed in previous books or in the same book. Even the title name is a foreshadow. Add to that Mr. Hemry's non-magical ship battles and aliens that are as strange as humorous and you get another good book. Well worth the 1 credit (or the full price) and well worth the time to listen to it. Only small problem is Rummel's sometimes confusing minor character accent change... but even that is a small problem compared to the wonderful experience that is this second book of the Beyond the Frontier series.

So much story they should have doubled the price!

This is so funny and truly has the content of 3 books in one. It is the best of this series and The Lost Fleet series. Plus the most important invention in the universe is bartered with aliens. Did I say this was very funny ;)

Another excellent installment in the series!

This is another excellent installment in my favorite science fiction series. The plot thickens as more intelligent alien races are discovered and the Fleet must decide how to handle each new situation. New information comes to light regarding the forces within the Alliance that do not want the Fleet to return and characters have to adapt as their world changes now that the war is over. Again, I truly enjoy the limitations of Relativity and the strategies that are used to overcome its limitations. Looking forward to the next book!
