Publisher's summary

Honor Harrington has survived ship-to-ship combat, assassins, political vendettas, and duels. But this time, Honor and her crew, ambushed and captured, are aboard an enemy ship, bound for a prison planet aptly named "Hell" - and her scheduled execution.

Yet the one lesson Honor has never learned is how to give up. She and her people are going home - even if it means conquering hell to get there!

A Note from Author David Weber
There's been some confusion—not to say, um, energetic debate, readers and fans being readers and fans—about the correct pronunciation of "Manticoran." The truth, alas, is that a stitch was dropped. An error occurred. A mistake was made… and it wasn't Audible's fault. It was mine. Before Audible recorded the very first Honor Harrington book, narrator Allyson Johnson and I not only corresponded by e-mail but actually spoke to one another by phone. She wanted to make absolutely certain she had the correct pronunciations for names, places, star nations, etc., and I tried to make certain all of her questions were answered. And so they were. Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I replied to one of her e-mails by telling her that "Man-ti-core-ahn" was pronounced "Man-tik-er-ahn." Exactly how this happened is more than I can say at this point, except to blushingly disclose that the original e-mail remains intact, confirming to all the world that it was, indeed, my fault. I can ascribe it only to a temporary mental hiccup on my part and crave your forgiveness. If, however, you must blame someone for the mix-up, that someone should be me and not Audible, who have done everything they could to get it right.

Listen to another Honor Harrington adventure.

First half 2/10 second half 9/10

So I nearly stopped reading when Honors daddy issues in wanting a man old than her father and her run away. I mean grayson was leery when she did stuff with a unmarried man. What would they say if she slept with a married man twice her age.

Adultry and sleeping with a commander and daddy issues of wanting approval of men in power nearly made me quit.

Yet the second half had great tension and worry. Yes some plot armor of how bad it could get for the MC but not much. Then the cliff hanger ending.

Second half was better than all other Honor books so far and ending much better then the constant deux machina last minute luck that normally saves her.

Excelent, audible should finish the series

I am now completely satisfied with Allison Johnson's reading of this series and have been for several books. The story is classic Weber and a wonderful story.

the downside: AUDIBLE decided to pause production of the Honor Harrington series with this book, my problem with this is this book is a cliff hanger, if audible wanted to pause the series they should have done so with the previous book as from this book on you could reasonably argue that the remaining books are really one very long book, at the very least Echoes of Honor should be done so as not to leave people hanging on a MAJOR cliff hanger

Love the Honor Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Good characters. Good tale.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course - Honor. Because she's a woman breaking barriers with intelligence and talent. Relate to her as a woman in business who has had to break quite a few barriers.

Have you listened to any of Allyson Johnson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to the Honor series. I think that Allyson Johnson is terrific. I'd listen to other stories she reads.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes - I fall asleep listening - wake up, wind back and re-listen. Awesome.

future readings

i wonder in the new Honor releases if Allyson Johnson learns how to pronounce Manticore and a few other words correctly! her reading other than these is great.

Always enjoy the overcoming of the insurmountable

Against cruel hatred and brutality Honor and her people bring swift judgment to their captors. Out of the frying pan and into the fire with confidence in the quality of the weapon at her command and the fierce determination of people.
