Publisher's summary

Book one in the classic conclusion to Frank Herbert's worldwide best-selling Dune Chronicles

Hunters of Dune and the concluding volume, Sandworms of Dune, bring together the great story lines and beloved characters in Frank Herbert's classic Dune universe, ranging from the time of the Butlerian Jihad to the original Dune series and beyond. Based directly on Frank Herbert's final outline, which lay hidden in a safe-deposit box for a decade, these two volumes will finally answer the urgent questions Dune fans have been debating for two decades.

At the end of Chapterhouse: Dune - Frank Herbert's final novel - a ship carrying the ghola of Duncan Idaho, Sheeana (a young woman who can control sandworms), and a crew of various refugees escapes into the uncharted galaxy, fleeing from the monstrous Honored Matres, dark counterparts to the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. The nearly invincible Honored Matres have swarmed into the known universe, driven from their home by a terrifying, mysterious Enemy.

As designed by the creative genius of Frank Herbert, the primary story of Hunters and Sandworms is the exotic odyssey of Duncan's no-ship as it is forced to elude the diabolical traps set by the ferocious, unknown Enemy. To strengthen their forces, the fugitives have used genetic technology from Scytale, the last Tleilaxu Master, to revive key figures from Dune's past - including Paul Muad'Dib and his beloved Chani, Lady Jessica, Stilgar, Thufir Hawat, and even Dr. Wellington Yueh. Each of these characters will use their special talents to meet the challenges thrown at them.

Failure is unthinkable - not only is their survival at stake, but they hold the fate of the entire human race in their hands.

Featured Article: Dune (2021)—Book vs. Movie

The very first book to win the Nebula Award, Frank Herbert's Dune has long been a fixture of the sci-fi world. It's no surprise, then, that yet another filmmaker has taken a stab at bringing this classic to the screen. The latest effort, by Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve, captures the first half of the epic novel. The reviews have been generally positive, with critics and audiences blown away by the scale and sheer ambition of the adaptation. Overall, Villeneuve's 2021 adaptation of Herbert's sci-fi classic is quite faithful. But in what small ways does the film differ from the book?

Excellent continuation

The answers we've been looking forward to. If you are a Dune fan and always wondered what happened, then this book will start tying all the strings in vast Dune universe together. I can't wait to listen to the final book.

Mixed feelings...

Scott does an excellent performance, but the story feels bloated by continual recaps. It is almost like the authors are concerned that the readers/listeners couldn't follow the story without these repetitions. Because of this, it reads--at least at times--more like a children's book with adult content. This book is in need of a team of editors to cut out the unnecessary weight impeding the tale and its telling. It is annoying to say the least. This said, I am glad the authors attempted this venture because the tales of dune are epic and were unfortunately left incomplete. The forward and afterword were helpful in coming to terms with some of the writing in comparison with Frank Herbert's books and undoubtedly the reason I don't mark the story as a 3*

Brilliant sequel.

Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson have really outdone themselves with this book. They followed the time line Frank Herbert laid out so many years ago, but also incorporated their own imagination. They didn't attempt to recreate Frank Herbert's style, but combined their own styles to create something new. Their brilliance allowed them to continue the story not just from Chapterhouse Dune, but from their prequels as well (the Butlerian Jihad trilogy). I really look forward to listening to Sandworms of Dune.

Scott Brick, the narrator, was an excellent reader and didn't distract you from the actual book, which I have found to be a problem with many audio books. Really well done.

Hunters of Dune

Would you listen to Hunters of Dune again? Why?

As it tied into the series, yes. It helps to understand what happened in some of the other books

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It held my interest thru out.

Any additional comments?

Read the whole series, from the first one, to really understand and enjoy Dune.

absolutely amazing

Great book Brian and Kevin do a great job of picking up the story were it left off with tons of intrigue and new ideas this book is as good as any that Frank himself has written. Dont believe the negative check it out for yourself. I just went through the whole series (that Frank wrote) and now i am finishing it with the 2 Brian wrote. Dont believe the negative hype if your a Dune fan this is a MUST have.
