Publisher's summary

The first novel in the Iron Druid Chronicles - introducing a cool, new, funny urban fantasy hero

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power - plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish - to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Liked it!!

This one has a lot to offer. It is a humorous monster story that isn't silly or stupid - just has a kind of pleasant clean humor that makes you laugh. Lots of fun, and the narrator is fantastic.

Love the dog

I love the narrator's version of the dog in this series. Its the part that stuck with me the most. I hope that in later books he gets more dialogue. The rest of the book is quite good, although the age thing is a little poorly managed. As long as you do not take it all too seriously this series is good entertainment.

Any additional comments?

If you loved the Dresden Files like I did then you'll enjoy this series. Its creatively unique with a similar feel and the characters, antagonists and allies alike, could be interchangeable. If you're craving more Dresden then give this series a listen, I think your cravings will be sated.

Surprisingly Funny

Hounded is a good story and a funny one. Reaching into the Celtic myths and bringing them to life, it makes it almost believable.

Better Late Than Never

Move over Harry Dresden. I always thought the Dresden Files was the best in class of the mage/magic urban fantasy genre. Fooled by book covers that appeared to promise steamy romance, I skipped the Iron Druid Chronicles. Now, I find myself embarrassingly late to the party. Not unlike going to a movie that everyone else saw 6 months ago. I hate having regrets, but this is one I can do something about.

Very entertaining

I was not too sure about getting this title but it was recommended for people with my reading tastes so I tried it. I am so glad that I did. This book was great fun. The narrator suited the characters, especially Oberon, the dog. Think Scooby Doo and you have an idea of how he sounded. I laughed out loud at times while listening. Loved it!

A Dashing Druid!

This was a great surprise for me. It was recommended because I LOVE Jim Butcher and it was a really fun book. A refreshingly original concept with a wonderful hero. Atticus is a Druid who is over 2000 years old but is blending into society in Arizona. He owns a new age store and sells medicinal herbs and brews a mean tea. There is a plethora of wonderful characters and a terrific Irish Wolfhound that steals the show. I am thrilled to have discovered this series with a few books already out because I would have hated to wait for the next installment.
