Publisher's summary

The first novel in the Iron Druid Chronicles - introducing a cool, new, funny urban fantasy hero

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power - plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish - to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Critic reviews

"Hearne, a self-professed comic-book nerd, has turned his love of awesome dudes whacking mightily at evil villains into a superb urban fantasy debut.” (Publishers Weekly)

“A page-turning and often laugh-out-loud funny caper through a mix of the modern and the mythic.” (Ari Marmell, author of The Warlord’s Legacy)

“Kevin Hearne breathes new life into old myths, creating a world both eerily familiar and startlingly original.” (Nicole Peeler, author of Tempest Rising)

great series start!

Would you consider the audio edition of Hounded to be better than the print version?

Only be cause Luke Daniels really captured the characters' essence.

What other book might you compare Hounded to and why?

Waking the witch by Kim Harrison is comparable because I love the supporting characters as much as the main character. It's a fun and exciting read as well.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

The fun of Oberon's chatter just can't be captured by ink.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the whole thing.

Fun Entertainment

Would you listen to Hounded again? Why?

No, I rarely listen to books more than once.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It seemed a natural conclusion to the story. Nothing earth-shattering. More like the end of an episode if this were a tv show.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Any additional comments?

This is a fun read, good for a road trip when you don't want anything heavy to think about or pay attention to. The characters are entertaining, if a bit contrived. The narrator does a decent job of differentiating voices, and I swear Oberon is by far the best.

My First Druid Story

What did you love best about Hounded?

The story had me interested from the first and I loved the narrator.

What other book might you compare Hounded to and why?

I haven't read or listened to anything quite like it before - usually I look for a little romance to keep me interested in the characters lives.

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

His performance made the story listenable. Is that a word?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was intense with the battles - but I must admit I laughed when 'death' laughed at the irony of the final battle.

Any additional comments?

I have mixed feelings about continuing with the stories. Love makes the magic work for me and I wonder if it is worth reading further without it.

Just amazing :)

I love this series :) everything about it! I learned so much! I wish the books were longer and had a bit more detail to explain the mythologies and characters but other than that the story is just awesome!

More under heaven and earth

Well, now. This is a happy surprise! I despair upon occasion that there are no more paranormal rocks to be overturned, no fresh narratives, no new worlds to discover, and, boy, do I like to be proven wrong. This has everything I like in a book: it's funny, engaging, expects me to have a brain, and did I mention it's funny? And not just because there's a talking dog, although, hey - that's always funny. Looking forward to returning to this version of the world.

Wonderful, witty, and worldly

Great combination of old mythology and new. Tons of witty references to other great works, like the Princess Bride and Battlestar Galactica. Charming characters. Plot lines that are exciting and unpredictable. This author is fantastic.
