Publisher's summary

The first novel in the Iron Druid Chronicles - introducing a cool, new, funny urban fantasy hero

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power - plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish - to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Don’t miss any of Kevin Hearne’s phenomenal Iron Druid Chronicles novels:

“A page-turning and often laugh-out-loud funny caper through a mix of the modern and the mythic.” (Ari Marmell, author of The Warlord’s Legacy)

“Kevin Hearne breathes new life into old myths, creating a world both eerily familiar and startlingly original.” (Nicole Peeler, author of Tempest Rising)

Similar to Dresden files, which are better IMHO

Similar to Dresden files, which are better to my taste, but I read or listened to all of them and they were getting better as new novels came up. The first novel in Dresden files is also not the best.

So may be this series will also develop. I haven't listened to the second and third books so can't say how it is playing out.

Great book but to much bad language

I loved the story but if I could change one thing it would be to leave out the language.
I got pulled right into the story. Great charaters and a seriously funny dog.

Must have series

Best series in a long time. Seriously... I grew up reading Harry Potter over and over, then listening to it because Jim Dale is amazing. Luke Daniels is Jim Dale amazing. Love the story and characters. I have listened to these books repeatedly dying for the next one.

Great Urban Fantasy

If you could sum up Hounded in three words, what would they be?

Fast, fun, exciting

What other book might you compare Hounded to and why?

I'd mix some Christopher Moore with some of the best urban fantasy authors. Jeaniene Frost (minus the graphic sex).

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great Irish accents, and impeccable timing for Oberon's one-liners.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, pacing was spot on. The book never felt like it was dragging. There was always something happening or on the brink of happening. It was fast paced without feeling rushed.

Any additional comments?

What a great start to a series. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Hounded. The characters are great. From the Gods to the widow to the classic Oberon. Great memorable characters and a whole lot of stories to be told. I'm really looking forward to listening to this series. It doesn't take itself overly serious, but it's got adventure, some romance, lots of characters and some laughs too. Looking for an urban fantasy series without all the romance and sex, this is one to check out.

Delightful Urban Fantasy

This book was recommended to me (and apparently many others!) because of my love of the Dresden Files. While this is a completely different book, it has many of the same reasons characteristics that I enjoy about Dresden. The subtle dark humor of the main character, the 1st person narration, the clean explanation of the world that is not quite our own (or... you know... could be, we just don't know it...), engaging characters, and some good action.
I enjoyed the performance - Luke Daniels felt very right in the role. Clear and entertaining.
Definitely a recommendation for this one - especially if you are dying for the next Dresden and need another series to help you out. Or if you're not a Dresden fan, but like urban/modern fantasy, this is a great one. The characters are engaging, and I finished the book and immediately went looking for the 2nd one.
Enjoy!

FUNNY AND EXCITING!

Great series! Laugh out loud funny! I often listen in my car and wonder what people think when I am laughing and commenting when driving in my car alone! Luke Daniels does a great job with all the character voices- especially Oberon the hound! He is hilarious! Kevin Hearne has got a great series of stories here. You cannot go wrong!
