Publisher's summary

The first novel in the Iron Druid Chronicles - introducing a cool, new, funny urban fantasy hero

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power - plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish - to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

"Hearne, a self-professed comic-book nerd, has turned his love of awesome dudes whacking mightily at evil villains into a superb urban fantasy debut.” (Publishers Weekly)

“A page-turning and often laugh-out-loud funny caper through a mix of the modern and the mythic.” (Ari Marmell, author of The Warlord’s Legacy)

“Kevin Hearne breathes new life into old myths, creating a world both eerily familiar and startlingly original.” (Nicole Peeler, author of Tempest Rising)

Well done, fun listen

Would you consider the audio edition of Hounded to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the printed version.

What other book might you compare Hounded to and why?

The types of characters are similar to the twilight books, werewolves and vampires but it added druids, demons, gods and goddesses. The characters are more interesting in my opinion then the twilight characters. I loved the use of the dog as a main character along with his dialog.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard him before but I enjoyed his reading. He suited the character very well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen at work so I have to stop often. I like taking breaks so I can mill over the events and build expectation of what might happen next.

Any additional comments?

I like the way the fight scenes were written. I have read other books where I became completely lost in what was happening. But I was able to follow the action very well in this book.

A fun book with a wonderful read

If you could sum up Hounded in three words, what would they be?

I love Oberon!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hounded?

When the dog asked for a passel of French Poodles in exchange for helping Atticus! Serious, laugh out loud hysterics in the car!

Who can resist an irreverent Irish hero/druid?

I stumbled upon this series with the sale on "First Books in a Series" and I am so glad. The writing is fast and funny. The hero is a smart ass and so is his dog. Some of the best dialog is between Atticus and his Irish wolfhound Oberon. The narration is very well done, flowing seamlessly over hard to pronounce Irish and Polish names. Kevin Hearne has done a remarkable job writing a fresh, engaging and funny new Fantasy series.

Clever, inventive, and fanciful!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Overall, the story is skillfully created. The plot is ingenious. The characters are inventive with easily accessible personalities. The story flows so smoothly that one can sit down to read/listen to it in one sitting - and become annoyed with such things as having to take a break for food and drink :)

What about Luke Daniels’s performance did you like?

Luke Daniels is a phenomenal narrator. He not only transitions smoothly into each person's voice, but into their

Any additional comments?

I've seen a number of comments about the Druid chronicles as being sub par to the Dresden series. I feel nothing could be further from the truth. I became tired of that series with the black & white, mind-numbing, narrow-mindedness of the characters. The storytelling here is

The Druid Returns

This was a truly unique book. Loved the main character, and his dog. Interesting combination of druids, Greek and Roman Gods, wherewolves, vampire (minor character) and witches... in a totally modern setting. I'm looking forward to the next one of the series.

Great narrator

This book was one of the most enjoyable books I've ever listened to! The narrator was so versatile in his characterizations. I definitely want to hear more from Oberon, the dog, because his sense of humor really added to the story! So this says a lot about the author. The storyline was original and kept moving. I was never bored! This was a great listen!!

So Funny!

Good lore, funny, fantasy, great plot and a talking dog. What could I ask for??!

“You will respect my authori-tah!' Oberon said, in a passable imitation of Eric Cartman. I reminded him that I needed to concentrate. Sometimes dogs forget; they just get too excited.”
