Publisher's summary

Times are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals - and they're camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. Inside its doors, things between Merit and her Master, green-eyed heartbreaker Ethan Sullivan, are tense. But then the mayor of Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.

Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn't help that she can't tell who's on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who's tall, dark, and part of an underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago's supernatural society - a world full of vampires who seem to be ready to fulfill the protesting human's worst fears, and a place where she'll learn that you can't be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands.

Twisting

I have found another series to put on my 'always' read list. The narrorator takes some getting used to at first, the characters in the book seem almost haughty in the way they are read but you do get used to the way Ms Holloway portrays them. This book has been my favorite so far. The twist at the end totally blew me away and I am still not sure if I am happy about it or not. But I do know that I am happy with the series.

Love the Story but the Shocking Plot Twist - Pain!

What did you love best about Hard Bitten?

Good story. Merit becomes a little formulaic though. 2+ issues to deal with in each story. But I can forgive that. I like all of the characters. They become enduring to you by this point.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Merit and Ethan! I am pro-Ethan I want to see their love progress. I wanted them to live happily ever after. Ouch!!!

Excellent Series

Really good last book in this series (I count this series as one of my all-time favorite of this genre) except for one really horrible awful thing that happens that was awful and horrible.

Anyway, well-written and very involving (except for that awful horrible thing that I mentioned above).

Twisted End

Series is pretty good so far. I like that adult heroine handles guy drama with maturity. Although, the concept of multiple guys interested at same time is annoying because it can be diminishing for self esteem of young women. Ok, off the soap box now and back to storyline... I am so happy that I found series after a lot of books were finished because this one has a shocking twist at the end that was heartbreaking. (I don't have to wait for release of next book. Yay!) You know it is good writing when it makes you dislike the author, which this one did for me. Hopefully she can repair my hearbreak as I quickly move to next book!

Did not enjoy the surprise ending.

Cynthia holloway was good, as always. A lot of good parts and enjoyable parts. But the surprise ending made me very unhappy and a little angry. Not sure I want to read on...

1st time I both loved and hated the book

I will endeavor not to give any hints away about what happens in this book since you can probably read other reviews to get an idea. what I will say is that I appreciate Ms Neill's ability to create a story and world building ability. it is easy to believe that in some alternative way if vampires and shape-shifters existed and it was known to the public, how we as a society might react both good and bad. I do appreciate the fact that Ms Neill is willing to challenge convention of an expected PNR. it wasn't easy to read the first time but I have mad respect for any author willing to challenge expectations. I think Ms Holloway does a remarkable job with all the characters in this series and embodies Merritt.

Disappointing Ending

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, enjoyable story

Would you be willing to try another book from Chloe Neill? Why or why not?

I will reluctantly listen to the listen to the next in the series - but the ending of this one ended one of the main storylines and you never get the happy ending you assume was meant to come.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Merit wants to sleep next to Ethan.

Good book... not great but good

I downloaded the whole series in order and have to say the reviews made me think the book was going to be horrible. I thought the narrator did a good job and the books themselves, while I hated the way each ended so abruptly, the books where actually well written and kept a good pace. I wish she wouldn’t end like shes beginning the next book but the writing actually had feeling and gave the characters life. The lead is not a dominate personality but she’s learning and the love story is there, you can see what the author was getting to in each point and I liked the build of success… more of an adult twilight version.

SHOCKED

I'm still in shock, the unexpected ending has me still crying. The narration by Cynthia Holloway was emotionally satisfying. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to Merit next.
