Publisher's summary

BOOK 3 IN THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona. There’s a vampire turf war brewing, and Russian demon hunters who call themselves the Hammers of God are running rampant. Despite multiple warnings and portents of dire consequences, Atticus and Leif journey to the Norse plain of Asgard, where they team up with a werewolf, a sorcerer, and an army of frost giants for an epic showdown against vicious Valkyries, angry gods, and the hammer-wielding Thunder Thug himself.

The only problem with this story, is when it ends!

Just as good as the first! The narration is the best! Couldn't imagine the story read by anyone else!

Continuing the tale of the Iron Druid

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Hammered is a quick, fun fantasy read. It's especially good for people who enjoy reading mythology, as Hearne seems determined to explore and humanize each pantheon. Witches (very dodgy), werewolves (very legal), and vampires round out the cast.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are delightful. In this book, figures from Navajo belief are added to the Celtic and Norse deities that were introduced in "Hexed" and "Hounded".

Which scene was your favorite?

The interaction between the central characters of the druid Atticus, his initiate Granuaile, and his Irish Wolfhound Oberon is always fun. The story relies heavily on dialogue, which makes it a great audiobook.

Any additional comments?

Luke Daniels does a fine job of voicing the many characters, and I'm particularly fond of his rendition of Oberon.

A most amusing series

It is hard to point out the flaws in this series because of its highly entertaining nature. The jokes are integrated seamlessly within the narration and the story, while mildly predictable in the outcome, is delivered in such a light way that one can easily relax and enjoy it.

The reader must also be applauded for his performance. The inflections and tone of voice give the character the same level of awesomeness as Han Solo, or Indiana Jones.

If one is looking for a nice pleasant book series to listen to on a long drive, there is nothing better than the Iron Druid.

Great series with a great tale

What can I say? My wife and I have been listening to this series for a few months now and we truly enjoy it. It is well written and with only a few oops moments, Luke Daniels is a great narrator. This is a great fictional take on all of the made up religions of the world. The only complaint I had was the portrayal of Jesus getting drunk, but like I said it is fiction. Though Jesus is the only real figure in the story, Hearne has done a great job of making the characters seem real and easy to connect to. From Oberon to Leif, the cast with Atticus seems to have a real place in the universe of the series, and that only makes it more fun. For those who have not read any of this series, here's a little teaser of "Hammered". Atticus, the last remaining druid, is taken on a journey to kill the Norse god Thor, who is really a jerk, unlike his Marvel comics counterpart. Each of the cast invloved in this plot, a vampire, a Russian thunder god, an Asian god, and even Atticus himself share thier stories and the reader will have a great time seeing into the depths of motivation for this journey. From midgard to Asgard, be ready for a surprising journey into the supernatural realm!
