BOOK 3 IN THE IRON DRUID CHRONICLES

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona. There’s a vampire turf war brewing, and Russian demon hunters who call themselves the Hammers of God are running rampant. Despite multiple warnings and portents of dire consequences, Atticus and Leif journey to the Norse plain of Asgard, where they team up with a werewolf, a sorcerer, and an army of frost giants for an epic showdown against vicious Valkyries, angry gods, and the hammer-wielding Thunder Thug himself.

But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. Good book

It’s an enjoyable story nice and relaxing. I love sci-fi /fantasy books but sometimes they can be complicated. Names I can’t pronounce, elaborate magic or battles etc. don’t get me wrong that’s why I like the genre. But every now and then it’s nice to have monsters I know, and towns I have heard of. Great characters, an overall interesting storyline. Love performance by Luke Daniels. It’s not one note by a long shot, it is a performance. I’m three books in and still enjoying myself.

A little off

This book isn't as good as the 1st two books, Atticus is a little bit of a dumb a** and makes multiple unwise decisions. it's almost painfully stupid the decision he makes lol. It is said that Atticus looks like a dumb college kid to onlookers and in this book he acts more the part, more immature, and has a dumb college kid sense of humor sometimes. I found it to be out of character and it seemed like atticus was different than the 1st two books in some ways. But overall I still enjoyed the book and will continue to read the rest of the series.

epic battles, and death

Hammered picks up almost where Hexed ended, and Atticus is traveling to Asgard to retrieve steal a golden apple promised to Laksha. Ratatosk, the squirrel, gods, and Ravens made for exciting travels. Once back in Tempe, he is faced with honoring Leif’s request. Leif wants to travel to the Norse plane of Asgard to kill Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Despite warnings and Atticus’ advice, Leif will not be persuaded, so off they travel along with the Tempe Alpha wolf and Atticus’ trusty wolfhound.

As we travel Hearne shared how Leif became a vampire, gave insight into Atticus’ past and reminded us once again how long this druid has lived. We even learn a little about our alpha. Others join them on the journey and share stories of their encounters with Thor. Prepare yourselves because the Thor in Hearne’s world is not at all like the god portrayed in Marvel and other tales. What a great twist seeing a darker version of this character. I loved the fireside chats, Russian vodka and different characters they encounter. Hearne is a brilliant storyteller.

Visits from gods, and of course the Morrigan made for some interesting listening before the climatic, ruthless battle began. Though Atticus’ was reluctant he stepped up but not before we suffered loss. Hearne weaved in humorous moments to offset the darkness, and I found myself bursting into laughter. If you are a proud geek like myself you will love all the references to fandoms weaved into this tale. There is no doubt Hearne is a proud flag flying member of many fandoms.

The worldbuilding was absolutely incredible and I was able to envision Asgard, frost giants, the angry gods, and the ruthless Valkyries. Things are changing for Atticus and the Iron Druid Chronicles as we have reached a pivotal point in the plot. Whatever happens, I know I will continue the journey on audio. Luke Daniels is amazing! Each character no matter how small their role has a distinctly unique voice that you instantly recognize. He captures the nuances of their personalities and adds another layer of enjoyment to this already epic series.

I'm in love with Luke Daniels, and Kevin Hearne.

Would you consider the audio edition of Hammered to be better than the print version?

Good god, I freaking love the way Mr. Daniels narrates the story. His voice acting is superb, and the story was great! Some parts were a little ridiculous, but the humor was well done, and I highly recommend this series. :)

Love this Book!

Still liking the Iron Druid. Must have read or listened to the first two to understand this one. That being said, I loved this book and can hardly wait for the next one in the series. Write faster Mr. Hearne!

Ancient gods dealt with in modern times

I love this series for the easy, modern, relaxed writing. Kevin Hearne has a knack for taking ancient subjects and dealing with them in todays’s world, if there were any Druid’s left. The relationship between the hero and his dog makes you laugh out loud and wish you can communicate with animals the same way! Very endearing. Great narration too! Can’t wait to read them all even though this story wasn’t my favorite in the series.

Wow

Love the series. And amazing adventure to explore and learn about Celtic Lore and Druids. Have read all of the Rick Riordan mythology books. Magisterium books. This takes on a whole new land of folklore. Love that it also integrate the previous Greek mythology, vampires, werewolves. Very educational and entertaining and hilarious read!

ok. not half bad. character motivations don't make

the story is okay. The characters are interesting but their motivations don't make sense. many of the characters motivations seen flawed especially for people who are supposed to be hundreds or a thousand or more years old. The original motivation for their existence is fair enough as flawed werewolf or flawed vampire but one would think over the years and decades and millennia that the initial reason for their change would be rethought.

The Fate of the Middle Book

It's always the middle movie/book in a trilogy that's the least interesting, necessary but sometimes lacking. I really enjoyed this book, but not as much as the others. I was kind a sad to see some characters leave. There's still some incredibly funny moments in the story. When they first meet the leader of the frost giants is hilarious. The different stories told by the group going to Asgard where interesting but at the same time, they kind of felt like filler. Overall it's a good book but so far, my least favorite in the series.
