Publisher's summary

If society collapsed, could you survive?

When Morgan Carter's car breaks down 250 miles from his home, he figures his weekend plans are ruined. But things are about to get much, much worse: The country's power grid has collapsed. There is no electricity, no running water, no Internet, and no way to know when normalcy will be restored - if it ever will be.

An avid survivalist, Morgan takes to the road with his prepper pack on his back. During the grueling trek from Tallahassee to his home in Lake County, chaos threatens his every step but Morgan is hell-bent on getting home to his wife and daughters - and he'll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Fans of James Wesley Rawles, William R. Forstchen's One Second After, and The End by G. Michael Hopf will revel in A. American's apocalyptic tale.

Whether we’re focused on the apocalypse or just an ill-timed breakdown on the side of a particularly remote road, there’s something about imagining survival scenarios that can be addictive. On some level, we all wonder if we would have what it takes to pit ourselves against the worst the world can possibly offer and make it out alive. That’s why it’s no surprise that survival literature is so popular, and that the stories in the genre are so diverse.

Prepper Porn

Any additional comments?

If your a libertarian or and advocate of the second amendment (same thing) this is your story. This series details all the Big Brother boogeyman scenarios that the NRA foretells. When the power grid goes down the evil government will take all the guns and your freedom and round your family into work camps. Why? Apparently that is not important to the story, because it does not tell you.
I found it an enjoyable story mainly because the characters were well defined, but the authors beliefs are spelled out all over the pages.

Series Going Home well Done, Narrator Awesome!

This series By A. American was so well done. Every time I had to stop listening I couldn’t wait to come back to it. As the books went on I think they got better. I had some Laugh out loud moments in the later books. The Narrator of this story was Duke Fontaine. I think he did a Great job & pleasant to listen to. I would have to say he is my Favorite Narrator to date! I got my siblings to listen to it and they all loved it as well.

Loved it!

One of the best novels I’ve ever listened to. Such a good detailed story they made you feel every emotion and felt like you were right there with them. I even laughed out loud and felt scared for the characters. Such a good listen and read.

A bit more graphic than is needed for the story

The story was good and I don’t mind graphic scenes if/ when they add substantial things to the story that can’t be conveyed without it. This story seemed to have more graphic description than it needed though and families should be aware that it’s definitely not a family-listen. I’m still debating whether to read the next in the series, most of the debate is around the graphic content, if this were closer to a PG or PG-13 story I would almost certainly read the next book

First audible book. Not bad.

Pretty good. Post apocalyptic fiction at its best. For the first book it held my interest and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Great book

What made the experience of listening to Going Home the most enjoyable?

Constant suspense

What other book might you compare Going Home to and why?

Have not listened to enough audio books to determine that yet.

Which scene was your favorite?

The encounter with the sarge. Brought back a lot of good memories from past service.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Gives one hope that there are still people out there that can still think on there own.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to listen to the next book. Drive a truck at night and makes the time fly while keeping me alert. And great price for 3 additional credits. Thank you

Silly but minor political sub-plot

The other reviews are very good - the book is fun and interesting but not stellar. There's a political sub-plot that is occasionally discussed. Few details in this book but the premise is obvious, and silly. I won't spoil it, but no matter where you are on the political spectrum, it strains credulity to think anyone would waste so much humanity and civilization to accomplish some very narrow (and largely pointless) political goals. Hopefully the other books in the series don't go much in that direction. My suggestion is to just ignore the sub-plot and enjoy the book otherwise.
