Publisher's summary

Having used unorthodox methods to save a world - and every sentient being on it - Lieutenant Commander Kris Longknife is wanted across the galaxy for crimes against humanity. For her own safety, she’s been assigned to a backwater planet where her Fast Patrol Squadron 127 enforces immigration control and smuggler interdiction. But Kris is a Longknife, and nothing can stop her from getting back to the center of things - not when all hell is breaking loose. Now she’s on the run, hunted by both military and civilian authorities - and since the civilian authorities happen to be her immediate family, Kris soon finds herself homeless, broke, and on trial for her life on an alien world....

How Fast Can She Run?

Mike Shepherd's Kris Longknife is back, and this time she's on the run. A bounty on a corporate planet, smart cops, assassins, 160+ planets, and half the military are all gunning to see who can put Kris Longknife down for good. And all she wants to do? Talk! Talk about the aliens, get the word out; have something to show for the lives sacrificed. Oh and find Jack! Kris is back and this time King Ray isn't going to get his way. General Trouble sticks his nose in and is; well TROUBLE. And some suprising cast members show up in the oddest of places. All in all Shepherd has put together his best Longknife to date and this one's hard to put down. I went through all 11+ hours in one sitting and I'm seriously thinking of starting it over, just to I make sure I got it all. It was worth the wait, and Shephard delivers with FURIOUS.

Dina Pearlman is back for the tenth installment of Kris Longknife, and she has really made this series her own. Pearlman brings Shepherd's vision to life, and makes it live and breathe. Shepherd puts his best work to date in the Longknife series on the table and Pearlman delivers and takes it to another world.

A fairly good addition to the series.

The characters continue to develop, albeit slowly, in the latest addition to the Longknife series. It seems to me to be a book of two parts. The first, a detective type story, is interesting but a little out of place and long winded. It's the old 'getting found out - getting away' sequences repeated a few times. Nice to see everyone getting back together however so it is reasonably OK. The book moves on in the second half - no explanation as spoilers - and the pace hots up. A great ending finishes the book leaving us wanting explanations and a lot more - just like the latest book in a series should do!

nice but read too fast

A nice continuation of the story and it is good to see some variation. But is it me or did it seam as though the back half the book was read like Dina was not allowed to go to the toilet until she finished the last word?

A real spellbinder

I've enjoyed the Kris Longknife series and watch eagerly for each new book to come out. In addition to fast paced action, there are interesting moral dilemmas presented each time and I love the evolving community of personalities created by Kris's self-aware personal computer & her offspring.
The book does seem to feel a little more tired to me...perhaps because Kris herself is hard pushed, stalked and harassed and seems ever more cynical of her culture and the powers that be ....but then, who could blame her?

Bridge Book

Is there anything you would change about this book?

More action, less law?

What do you think your next listen will be?

Currently listening to Inheritance.

What does Dina Pearlman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A lot! She brings each character to life, especially Nellie the computer. Reading the book would be less enjoyable.

Was Furious worth the listening time?

Yes, and no. This book is merely a bridge between, I assume, two more active books. It resolves some things and sets up others, but doesn't have as much action as usual.

Almost a placeholder book

This is the style of SF that I grew up on. I guess that is why I have read the past 9 books, making this one a no-brainer.

In a lot of ways this is perhaps the most boring of the series. No cataclismic fight against overwhelming odds and very little fleet action (even the ground fighting/espionage, another big factor for this series, was tame). Mainly just a bunch of hiding/escaping from pursuers, a break in, more fleeing and then a courtroom drama (set in the Japanese empire, which is entertaining). And oddly enough, more romance than we have seen in almost the entire series combined.

Kris starts the story exiled, stuck on a planet far away, seperated from most of her friends (except Abbie). After yet another assaination attempt coupled with some key intel that needs to be resolved back in Wardhaven, she promptly escapes. Making things difficult for her is that her father and her grandfather have both sworn out warrants against her, and her other grandfather locks her out of her massive funds.

Overall entertaining popcorn novel. The most frustrating part of the book was the end, which so horribly teases the next book I was kind of annoyed......

Boring! Boring! Boring!

I was really looking forward to this book. Unfortunately it just didn't deliver much in the way of a story. The narrator did a good job with some pretty boring material, but not enough to save this stinker. Hopefully the next book will be a bit more enjoyable?
