Publisher's summary

The People's Republic of Haven's sneak attack on the Kingdom of Manticore has failed. The Peeps are in disarray, their leaders fighting for power in bloody revolution, and the Royal Manticoran Navy stands victorious.

But Manticore has domestic problems of its own, and success can be more treacherous than defeat for Honor Harrington. Now, trapped at the core of a political crisis she never sought, betrayed by an old and vicious enemy she'd thought vanquished forever, she stands alone.

She must fight for justice on a battlefield she never trained for in a private war that offers just two choices: death... or a "victory" that can end only in dishonor and the loss of all she loves.

A Note from Author David Weber
There's been some confusion—not to say, um, energetic debate, readers and fans being readers and fans—about the correct pronunciation of "Manticoran." The truth, alas, is that a stitch was dropped. An error occurred. A mistake was made… and it wasn't Audible's fault. It was mine. Before Audible recorded the very first Honor Harrington book, narrator Allyson Johnson and I not only corresponded by e-mail but actually spoke to one another by phone. She wanted to make absolutely certain she had the correct pronunciations for names, places, star nations, etc., and I tried to make certain all of her questions were answered. And so they were. Unfortunately, at some point in the process, I replied to one of her e-mails by telling her that "Man-ti-core-ahn" was pronounced "Man-tik-er-ahn." Exactly how this happened is more than I can say at this point, except to blushingly disclose that the original e-mail remains intact, confirming to all the world that it was, indeed, my fault. I can ascribe it only to a temporary mental hiccup on my part and crave your forgiveness. If, however, you must blame someone for the mix-up, that someone should be me and not Audible, who have done everything they could to get it right.

Listen to another Honor Harrington adventure.

Slightly different from the first three books

STORY (military sci-fi) - Field of Dishonor is Book 4 in the series. Unfortunately, it lacks the interplanetary battle scenes we have come to expect, but there's no lack of excitement. Pavel Young's hatred of Honor escalates personally and politically until she is forced into a very dangerous lose-lose situation. This is the major story line of the book, and it's very, very good.

There is more character development than in the first three books. It slows the pace a bit, but it's enjoyable. Honor faces great sadness and is severely tested, but she remains true to who she is. She becomes more "real" and I like her more with each book.

The story finishes at a nice "pausing point," but it's definitely not an end. A preview of the next book follows.

PERFORMANCE - The narrator is female, has a pleasant voice and does a good job.

OVERALL - You should listen to this series in order. There's some minor violence, a small amount of very mild sex and a sprinkling of cursing. The politics are fairly complicated so it's not an easy listen. Probably should be over about age 18 to understand and enjoy.

Honor Harrington Universe Book 4

"Continuation"

Basically this book is a second part to a previous one.
Romance and love affair, Trial of guilty party, New responsibilities of stadtholder, Loyalty and betrayal.
Finishing and evolving plot strands which began in a previous book.

Also a few interesting insights in Star Kingdom legal system.

Great Narrator

What does Allyson Johnson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Allyson Johnson does a fantastic job. She manages to do a great job with men's and women's voices and you can usually tell which character she is narrating by voice alone.

Field of Dishonor

I have enjoyed this series can hardly stop listening. I think Allyson Johnson does a good job narrating the story. Less action in this book as compared to the prior books but the dueling scenes were great. I was surprised at what happens to Honor's lover. Can not wait to start listening to the next in the series.

Best of the series so far

I've listened to all the prior stories and I think this is the best to date. Not as much action perhaps but some great dramatic moments.

I don't have a problem with the narration either.

Excellent continuation within the Honor-verse.

I'm glad Pavel Young is gone. Sad about Captain Tankersley. I pray that Mr. Weber has years and years of tales yet to tell.
