Publisher's summary

WHO WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens to them is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

This is a standalone short story of 7,200 words. No prior knowledge of The Riyria Revelations or The Riyria Chronicles is required to enjoy it to its fullest, making this a perfect introduction for new readers or a chance for Riyria veterans to spend a little more time with old friends. The Jester is a story of adventure, bonds of friendship, and a recognition that the choices we make dictates the future we find.

Nice Short Riyria Adventure

Feels more like a chapter out of a larger work than a complete story. I struggled to catch up with what was going on. Still, it is a fun adventure with the very enjoyable Royce and Hadrian. Free audiobook and great narration so I can't complain.

Too short! Want more!

What made the experience of listening to FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) the most enjoyable?

Well, I guess because this was a Free short story donated by M.J. Sullivan to help his friend out, I really shouldn't complain. However, it was phenomenal! My hour commute to school was about as long as this short story is and I was extremely disappointed that I wouldn't have more of the tale to listen to on the way back. M.J. Sullivan is such a talented writer!

What was one of the most memorable moments of FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale)?

The characters were in a precarious situation and (trying here not to give anything away) to get their way out, they had to use a bit of thinking, solving a puzzle/riddle of sorts. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't straight out solving stuff, the story was descriptive with action and filled with emotions of excitement and fear, but in the background there was some....thinking involved by a certain character. It was very intriguing.

Have you listened to any of Tim Gerard Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. From the other Riyria Chronicles books. Fabulous as ever!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Definitely laugh.

Any additional comments?

Even if you don't find this author or the performance of T.G. Reynold's as fabulous as I do, this is free, it'll give you a good idea of what the main characters are like and whether you want more.
