Publisher's summary

Emily Baxter’s dream life turns into a waking nightmare the day the red rain falls. Like a biblical plague, the scarlet downpour spreads a hideous virus that demolishes life in New York City, the nation, and the world. Suddenly the last soul in an annihilated metropolis - and possibly on Earth - the onetime newspaper reporter must learn to scavenge, survive...and plan for a future of utter solitude.

Then, from far-flung Alaska, another living voice reaches out, and Emily grasps at her only glimmer of hope. But she may be even less alone than she thinks. The world is in the midst of a strange and frightening transition; something that fell with the red rain is remaking Earth in its own alien image.

Now, Emily alone will bear witness to the terrifying new evolution - and risk her life to outrun it, for the sake of the future and in the name of all that is human.

Don't take a breath ever again

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes but with reservations

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Dog Thor, he has no fear or common sense

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

All the characters have a female twang even the men - there should have 2 narrators one male and one female.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No but the story line is fascinating - the question that I kept asking is what would I do in her place.

Any additional comments?

The main character made me mad - I kept wanting to shake her and say get your act together - I think this book was written for teens, because most adults would not react like she did.

You would have to pay me to listen to the next one

The story was just okay. But the main character was not believable. The performance was terrible. If you like books in the post apocalyptic genre there are many better available

TO FAR FETCHED

Emily Beresford helped this story greatly. the story line was weak and the main character unrealistic. Tweak her background a bit outdoors women witb more common sense it would have been better.

Amazing!

This is an amazing story with a whole different take on the world ending. I absolutely LOVE author Paul Antony Jones creativity, the storyline, the details are amazing, and Emily Baxter was a great character. This wasn't my normal genre, well I don't like anything that contains aliens but this story wasn't really about aliens, yet it was. I have listened to the second story but I will have to listen to it again before I post a review.

The narrator Emily Beresford has outdone herself with her performance of this story. She does an excellent job at distinguishing the characters voices. She makes you feel as if you're right there inside the story going through everything Emily is having to deal with. If you read this story but didn't like it then try the audio version because the narrator will have you immersed in the story. A great story that leaves you begging for more. I received this audio by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

the story is clearly unfinished

not a full story with a beginning climax and end. it is still open for a real point to the story. do not expect to solve anything in this book, that must come later?

Better Than Expected

The author did a great job with this story. The character is very likeable and the build up to the aliens was good. Can't wait for the next book.

Good plot, too much exposition

The plot is intriguing and made me want to continue, in spite of the fact that there were many times I couldn't stand the whiny protagonist. There is also way too much time spent in her head. If I had been reading instead of listening, I would have skipped over all that naval gazing she does. This would be a 5 star novel if the author or his editor had pruned all that. That said, the plot has snagged me and I'm going on to the second novel in this series.

A great read and listen

This is one of my favorite series and I decided to take a chance on the audio to "read" it again. Narration was very good and I enjoyed the story as much as I did when I read the book myself.
