In the summer of 1947, an unidentified object crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. There were no survivors. Now it's happened again. But this time, two creatures have emerged from the wreckage alive.

There are few things better than a good story well told!
Yes, if the friend was into action/adventure stories (Cussler, Rollins, Child, Preston etc.). There is nothing complicated here just a good adventure based on the myth (?) surrounding Area 51. And if you have not read any other Event Group thrillers you can still enjoy this story. Light but very entertaining listen.
Fantastic narration by Poe, and a fascinating ( if not at times somewhat unbelievable ) story arc. It's the mother of all conspiracy theory lovers books/series.
The supporting story for the Roswell Incident is entertaining.
Each character comes to life. An award worthy presentation.
I highly recommend this BOT, and urge Audible to upload the entire series IMMEDIATELY!
IT Project Manager in CA. I would say I am a Audio Book Addict...
A wonderful syfi adventure series. Well written excellent character development and imaginative stories. Also, the narrator does a excellent job.
The one problem is that we do not yet have access to the full series. Not only that, some of the books in the series have been skipped. The reading order should be:
Event -- Available at audible.
Legend -- Available at audible.
Ancients -- Available at audible.
Leviathan -- Missing
Primeval -- Missing
Legacy -- Missing
Ripper -- Available at audible.
If Audible had all of them I would probably add them to my library.
I was looking for an intelligent science fiction story. After I started listening, I thought I could settle for a conspiracy adventure story. Unfortunately, the author is unable to describe police procedure in a believable manner, let alone anything related to physics or computing.
Event by David Lynn Golemon creates a supersecret United States agency started by Abraham Lincoln to investigate archaeological sites. The proffered rationale was to "learn" stuff, but why the US would feel the need to run covert military ops for national security reasons in recovering buried treasure was never made clear. So with such an organization in place, Roswell, NM takes on a a different flavor. Furthermore, the alien artifacts from 1947 were stolen by someone believing that they could protect the nation better than the US government. 60 years later, some of the original players are still around ready for round 2 with the alien return.
The sci-fi elements are limited to alien "stuff" mainly little green men and a rabid, killer, engineered alien lion like creature designed to eat humanity. At the same time, there is a freelance former French legioneer with a penchant for old things who simply gets in everyone's way. All the action occurs against a backdrop of military and espionage lite action.
The narration is quite good with a solid range of voices and excellent pacing.
This was possibly the worst writing I have sat through ever. Thank heavens for a passable narrator who made it through the book as well. Clearly the author is a fan of The Oregon Files, and a fan of the movie Tremors...possibly the Predator films...Andromeda Strain. All hugely popular (well, maybe not Tremors), but all in the same book?? It has been said that all the good plots have been used (Jasper Fforde, I believe, said that)...maybe it is true.
I spent my time composing my review...then slipped into editing mode. Yes, we KNOW that clicking off the safety means the big deadly gun is ready to fire! I'm not a gun person and even I know that. Does it matter how many pores there are on the skin of the predator? Precisely what shade of blue-green its armor was? Not really. Remember being in Junior High and having to write a 1,000 word essay and how putting in those "descriptive words" bulked it up without actually needing more story? Yeah. This author must remember as well, and he was never going to run short of descriptions.
I did make it through to the end. I therefore know that someone must have said: Every story must have some touch of romance. Nope. He should have let that slide. In my opinion, he could have killed off all the main characters as none of them held any appeal, but I knew there were more books in the series, so someone had to live.
The premise had potential. I kept hoping matters would improve. Sorry to say, they did not.
Production worker making time fly by listening to the best. I seem to be some what picky. The book has to grab my attention!
The story is similar to tremors just with legs. Some times slower and harder to follow. not something i would have wasted my credit on!
Maybe more suspense in conflicts. An more of a creative antagonist!
Lacking creative imagination
all ready have. it was just like tremmors
Not worth the time or credit the movie "Tremors" was mush better! i should have listen to the reviews
One of the best!
The background on the Event group, the introduction of some great characters and the way the author interwove the various antagonists and time periods in the story.
They were all great! I liked them all.
When the friendly alien is saved by the prospector.
I have this book on my Kindle, but liked it so much I wondered how it would be on audio. It made the story really come alive.Richard Poe is one of my favorite narrators and does a great job with all voices. I really liked him on some of the Dan Brown books and was delighted to know he narrates the David L. Goleman books, too. I think this is the best of the Event group series, so far. It gives the listener a really good background on the mysterious Event group and their mission to investigate and preserve as many unexplained phenomena as they can locate. It also introduces the main characters that reappear again and again in the other books. There are many exciting and unexpected twists and turns and the variety of characters are great. It was refreshing to listen to an audiobook that is really SciFi and not involved with current geo-political problems. It is one of those kinds of stories that I had to listen to whenever I could, to see what happens next and I was almost sad when it ended. Great ending, by the way. I highly recommend this as a fun book that really keeps one interested from start to finish.
Not if this is an example.
It would be the end if I decided to finish it.
