A fun escape.

This series gives many enjoyable hours of listening. A great way to pass a long car ride.

Where do I start...

I listen to a lot of audio books. Mostly books of this exact genre and was excited to find this series. Sounds right up my street and I thought Richard Poe did an decent job of bringing the story to life.

My issue with the book, and it was a near constant distraction all the way through, was that it felt like it was written in the early 1980's. If that is the case then I totally understand, however as I understand it the book was written in the early to mid 2000's.

The writing often sounded like the characters were out of a 1940's gangster movie. I kept imagining Bugsy Malone saying "See here you, why you.. ya hear". It made the female characters come across as second class and treated with kid gloves in a very 1950's way.

References to a Cray, programs on tape, outdated biometric security and surveillance capabilities, etc for the highest funded secret organisation in the US they were seriously outdated. A US government agency issuing a Browning HP in 9mm to an operator is odd to say the least. For me the most painful was the that KH-11 and other electro-optical orbital surveillance platforms would not require a dramatic count-down to "go to maximum magnification".

These little technical or dramatic gripes aside, I did enjoy the book. The premise was excellent and the general story was enjoyable.

I will certainly give the next book in the series a go.

Fun, edge of your seat.

I has as much fun listening to this, as I did reading it. Loved it and loved the voice for Gus and Matchstick - exactly how I heard them in my head when reading the book.

Commute worthy

Not great BUT this author has promise. I will spend another credit to see. I do appreciate having loose ends wrapped up. My only real beef is making regular military weak or disposable. When you just need something to take your mind off things, this will work okay.

Great version of the Area51 story!!

I am a big fan of James Rollins and the Sigma Force novels. They fill that mindless over-the-top action filled hole in my heart that only that sort of stuff can do. This story is very good and well edited. I never felt as though the story lagged and the action was not dampened by unnecessary romance and the like. Great take on the Area 51 story.

The Start of an AMAZING Series

Technically I think you are supposed to listen to this book first, but I listened to the books so out of order. It was actually nice to listen to this one as it answered some of the questions I had from the other books in the series. So read at your own discretion. I LOVE this series. I now have to wait for the next book in the series to come out. If you love a story that weaves tales, and takes you to amazing worlds, you are going to love the Event Group!! Happy Reading!!

Too damn scary & graphic in its gory detertails.

I like sci-fi but not horror. Disturbing in its possibilities. Won't listen again. Too scary.

A Great Series.

A wonderful syfi adventure series. Well written excellent character development and imaginative stories. Also, the narrator does a excellent job.

The one problem is that we do not yet have access to the full series. Not only that, some of the books in the series have been skipped. The reading order should be:
Event -- Available at audible.
Legend -- Available at audible.
Ancients -- Available at audible.
Leviathan -- Missing
Primeval -- Missing
Legacy -- Missing
Ripper -- Available at audible.

If Audible had all of them I would probably add them to my library.

Enjoyable!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if the friend was into action/adventure stories (Cussler, Rollins, Child, Preston etc.). There is nothing complicated here just a good adventure based on the myth (?) surrounding Area 51. And if you have not read any other Event Group thrillers you can still enjoy this story. Light but very entertaining listen.
