Don’t miss the eagerly anticipated epic new fantasy from Christopher Paolini—Murtagh, coming 11.7.23!

A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity."—The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Critic reviews

"It's an impressive start to a writing career that's sure to flourish." (Booklist)

"Doyle's range of accents is perfect for the multiple characters of this epic....On paper Eragon is a sprawling fantasy, filled with obvious nods to Tolkien and too many convenient plot devices. But on audio, it fills the ears with vivid characters, witty dialogue, and nail-biting battle scenes set in a magical world where a beautiful blue dragon and her rider are at the noble center of it all." (AudioFile)

"An impressive epic fantasy." (Publishers Weekly)

Questionable Doyle

although I love this book series and overall Doyle did a fine job, a lot of the voices and accents he used for different characters felt wrong, or were easily confused to other characters.

awsome

I had this book done in less than two days. I was held captive by the the readers character voices and it seemed like I was really there watching everything unfold. Excellent work..

2nd time worthy

exceptional narration by Gerard Doyle only makes the storyline all the more interesting. the characters are well developed and their relations subtlety built. I'm going through the entire saga the second time. I definitely recommend this book to any fantasy enthusiast.

Love the series, but one small error ( imo)

I loved reading the Inheritance Cycle, and downloaded this for my morning commute. Great performance save for one issue, in my opinion.
The voice of Saphirra the dragon was very low and guttural, which didn't match very well with her nobility and wisdom as eluded to into the narrative. She sounded like she would have been better as an Urgal. Having this gruff masculine voice tell Eragon "I love you, little one" was VERY off-putting. Definitely not the majestic feminine voice I had always pictured.
Yet despite that, I still adore this world that Paolini has created. I still be listening to this tale several times, just like the rest of my library.

I love this book

This is a fine book, masterfully written, masterfully read. Performed wonderfully, much better than the movie. The intricate details of the storyline are wonderful.

Great story, narrator could be better

The story was wonderful, and I enjoyed the narration except for one really annoying choice by the narrator: Saphira’s voice is terribly irritating and grating to listen to. It’s too bad he choice this voice for a main character we have to listen to throughout the book/series.
