Publisher's Summary

When a huge alien spacecraft crashes on the island of Cuba, the world scrambles to investigate. Secretive organizations have waited for generations for this opportunity, and they do not hesitate to send in recovery teams. Cooperation between nations breaks down as every government wants the newly discovered technology for themselves. Naturally, the Cubans have beaten everyone else, and the island is beginning to change. Aircraft flying reconnaissance are swatted from the skies. Commandos can’t make a landing on the beaches without being annihilated. Malena Marin is a new XCU agent with special abilities. She’s sent with a team of veterans on a mission to secure the landing site or die trying. Unfortunately, the enemy knows they’re coming. As the conflict grows and turns increasingly violent, the aliens themselves enter the game. And they have plans of their own....

"Very cool story. A little short."

I feel like I listened to half of a book by the time i was done. I want answers and i didn't get them. Aliens, secret government agents stealing the aliens technology, craziness.

Dont get me wrong, this was a very entertaining listen, but it left me wanting more. It felt like half of a thought almost at times. That will not stop me from getting the next in the series.

"Another good story and I am hoping for a 2nd book!"

I couldn't stop listening to this book! It was action pack and so interesting. It kept me awake on a long drive to Florida from Texas. I truely hope that Larson continues this series.

"Good Story, But Could Have Been Much Better!"

    B. V. Larson is a very good writer. He wrote stories like STAR FORCE a Great saga that is still on going. This story is a good one in many respects but is drawn out and lacks action in some areas. It has a good plot to the story but fades in the jungle and on an alien ship. Very little is told about what the ship in side or out looks like. Some vage image you can imagine thats all.

    "Silly."

Between the aliens and humans in this story, the aliens were far more believable than the human characters. The silly things the characters (ALL of them) said and did in any given scene was far too distracting to allow me to enjoy the story.

"Love starforce & undying, but couldn't finish this"

Seems written for young female audience. Heroine's inner monologue and actions were flat and unrealistic. Just got tired of the thin action and the number of times I couldn't suspend my disbelief. Sorry, but the conversations between spies with military backgrounds, sounded much more like what high schoolers would say.

Worth the credit, looking 4 more. Few oh sure moments. Good sense of realism. Romance, but not teenage immature.

    Story
"New Heroine, good stage, good characters"

So BV Larson does write characters well and I do like the book overall. There is the standard inconsistency in the characters that makes me talk back to the narrator. In this case, without spoiling, the main character is freaking out about what her partner may have done, which if they did do it was already what the bad she's freaking out about was willing to do to her. No one in their right mind is going to follow the very weird logic here. BV seems to do this every so often in all his books. I think he wants to build up more psychological drama, but it usually annoying. BUT the story overall would rate a 4.4 to me, but I have round it down. Overall the characters and stage is set well and it's a believable, enjoyable Sci-fi romp, without something sciency happening and thar be zombies.

Carol Monda is in my pantheon of great narrators now. Great voice in general. Great narration with appropriate pauses, variation of voice. Never droning in narration. Clear separation of narration and characters. Consistent voices for characters. Voices are not extreme and noticeable. I know who is talking when even when there are multiple characters. Again, I think a good reading is harder than good acting, and she is a great reader.

This one won't make you think about any mind bending issues, well, there is one theme throughout that the main characters mulls about, but it is an entertaining, well-crafted romp.
