Publisher's summary

The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spans the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder.

In 2122 a lost colony expedition contacts Earth, surprising our government. Colonization is against Galactic Law, and Legion Varus is dispatched to the system to handle the situation. Earth gave them sealed orders, but Earth is 35 lightyears away. The Legion commanders have a secret plan of their own. And then there's James McGill, who was never too good at listening to authority in the first place....

In Dust World, book two of the Undying Mercenaries Series, McGill is promoted to Specialist and sent to a frontier planet outside the Empire. Earth's status within the Empire will never be the same.

Awesome Book!!!

Awesome book! Great for those who don't mind lots of language and humor. I love the book so much, I think that this is my 6th or 7th time listening to this book series.

A worthwhile listen

A worthwhile listen. Not as good as the first, but almost. The concept of being recreated lost some of it's novelty, but I did like how it concluded.

Excellent

If you enjoy alien worlds, battles and a lurking menace you will enjoy this. A Starship Troopers style adventure with excellent detail and yet a fast moving pace.

Love the book, hate the main character!

I can't put this series down. It has everything I want in science fiction—a plausible universe, fun tech, a fun storyline, and decent character development. Also, the narrator is amazing.

But, man, I hate the main character. I think we're supposed to identify with him or something. But all I can think about is how he deserves to get permed. No decently-run military would allow his repeated disobedience, so his actions make the book seem unrealistic. You can kind of look past it, however, because the story is fun.

Good second book

Started turning against the main character at a few points, but the story was good.

Good as the first book

I am never expect a lot for the second book of a series, I just hope there is some story progression and the same level of story telling as in the first book. And this book is good on both counts. The story does move along and the level of story telling is as good as the first. So now I look forward to the 3rd book.

Great listen!

Both the author and narrator are awesome, the story line is captivating and as a Veteran in a strange way makes me feel at "home" (I did say in a strange way lol)

James McGill: Kill Screw Marry?

This is another great military Sci Fi book in the undying merc series. Mark Boynett does a lovely job with the voice acting, yet again. As for the title question, you can do all three to him without him much minding! Hail Varys!
