NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

Written like art, narrated beautifully

The lines within this book immediately entwine the listener. The narrators and voice actors have performed superbly. Definitely a work of art. A must listen.

Inconsistent Ensemble Cast

The Baron Harkonan (sp?), for example, had a dedicated voice actor, but not all his lines were delivered by that actor. The narrator often read them. at first I thought maybe the narrator was only reading for the Baron's internal thoughts, but there were also lines of Baron dialogue spoken to other characters out loud. This was jarring to me and really took me out of the story.

It's as if Stephen King wrote a non-horror novel

it was mostly boring and dry. hard to get through, but the gripping parts were so good! the last quarter of the book is where it finally became consistently good.

I give water to the dead, to this unliving book

Amazing book and story. It's a bit slow at the onset for remembering so many details and names but it is well worth it. I was moved to tears by the performance in the latter half of the book, very well directed and acted out.

great story, well read

my only complaint is that some sections the characters were voiced by actors and others were just the reader, so it was disorienting as to who was talking for the first third of the book.

great story and production value

only downside is they confusingly changed voices for the same character throughout the book. it's fine to reuse actors, but keep the voice consistent for the same character!

just to add on a great story regarding the audio

Confusing alternating of character voices. On some chapters the narrator reads out the lines, and on other the actors do, this being repeated over and over through the book. it really takes away from the whole experience during the first hours until you get acustomed to it.

Great!

Great story. Wonderful performance by narrators. Story is deep and complex but its worth multiple listens.

Voice confusion

There were a few instances where a character was voiced using 3 different voices. Two would have made sense but 3?
