How is this woman a narrator?

Story is absolutely fantastic, love Dragonlance more than any other books I’ve ever read. Not to sound overdramatic but the discovery of the Dragonlance series books 25 years ago possibly saved me from committing suicide. I enjoyed them so much it changed and saved my life. With that said, this narrator is absolutely horrible. She mispronounces common English words, names, makes elves sound like Keebler elves that should be in a tree baking cookies. Was there NO resource available to her to consult in order to at least learn how to pronounce “Majere” for instance? (Majeery? Really?)

So yeah that’s my review, I hope it doesn’t detract from the authors.

Mispronounced Majere

It's a small thing. Narrator, do you say, "come over here, or "come over hereeee? 😒 but much better than chronicles

Okay story, okay narrator, terrible reading

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Change the narrator - the reading of the text is terrible.

If you’ve listened to books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman before, how does this one compare?

Poor narration. Okay story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The reading of the text was abysmal. Constant incorrect pronunciations and simply misread words... examples: liches should be pronounced lih-Chez, but she read it as lik-Es. Another instance the word was immortality, and the narrator read it as immorality, in spite of the context. Finally, the name Majere is pronounced mah-Zheer, but the narrator constantly reads it as ma-Jeer-ey. It's pretty bad.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

See my review for Book 1.

Any additional comments?

I would like my money back on this series.

Horrible Performance

The narrator constantly mispronounced main character names and common usage words. Her tone of voice and inflection was boring and almost monotone

great story, bad reader

Once again a great story that could have used someone reading that knew more about the story and pronounced names correctly.

Surprisingly Good story TERRIBLE Narration

I found the story hard to get started at first but once it gets going you want to find out how it all turns out. But I swear narrators should be required to get samples of previous narrators saying the names of characters because this one should be punished for "Ma jeery" and others

Excellent book, narrator has some quirks

Well written and entertaining, but the narrator mispronounces some words in a manner I find irritating.
For instance, the word shone, which should be pronounced with a hard “ō”, she pronounces as “shawn”. There are about a half dozen other words she consistently mispronounces, but it is only mildly irritating, and not enough to significantly damage enjoyment of the book.

mispronouncing names and places

Would you try another book from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and/or Marieve Herington?

Marieve Herington should never try to read an epic. Mispronouncing the names of the characters that I have come to love in the Dragon lance stories is an irritant worse than a sore tooth. Makes what would be as wonderful a book as the others from Weis and Hickman unbearable to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Taz

Would you be willing to try another one of Marieve Herington’s performances?

loved her reading of the fire rose but I will not waste time and money to here her read series books

Great Story / Meh Narrator

I’m spoiled to good narrators. This is not one of them. Other than that. It’s a wonderful story and the characters are well written. I’ve been going hard on Dragonlance nostalgia here lately and this is a trilogy I only read once, so it’s not burned into my brain like the others. But yeah, great book.

Poor narrator, story was pretty good

Imagine an AI bot in the form of a 13 year old girl who mispronounces words like “liches” and “Majere” while simultaneously being perfectly deadpan. Well that would be this narrator.

I listened because I like Dragonlance and of course Tasselhoff is a favorite but the narration was grating.
