Publisher's summary

Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart. They speak of a world shadowed with rumors of war. They speak of tales of strange monsters, creatures of myth, creatures of legend. They do not speak of their secrets. Not then. Not until a chance encounter with a beautiful, sorrowful woman, who bears a magical crystal staff, draws the companions deeper into the shadows, forever changing their lives and shaping the fate of the world.

No one expected them to be heroes.

Least of all, them.

Nostalgia hits just right.

Loved hearing a D&D classic from my youth. I have missed the many characters that have been hiding in the back of my memory. Vermingaard, Bupo, Cistern.. weird how I only seem to remember the heroes.

Try in spite of the reviews

These books have been out for a while but I would always read the reviews and decide against it because they would say the narrator was horrible. I did not honestly have any problem or difficulty with the narrator's voice. I did not find him flat and his voices for the characters did not leave me confused as to who was talking.

As to the disparity between mine and others reviews, I would chalk it up to difference of opinion. However, I came into this book fully expecting to dislike the narration and was pleasantly enthralled.

I came to this series after reading the "soul forged" and "brothers in arms" books that prequel this in the series. I also recommend doing so for a bit of context on the story if you have the time because they are also great stories.

worst dictation ever.

I've loved this story since the first time I opened it's cover. But. Amazon, please fire the man who read this, he has no grasp of grammar and the way English should be read out loud. it almost ruined the story for me.

Great to listen to fond memories of being a kid

I loved listening to this it was wonderful to listen and think back to reading this as a kid. I was hesitant to get the book because of all the negative reviews about the voice actor. If anyone has listened to the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb you will recognize the voice. I found the narration to be well above average. I may have personal favorites that I would have liked to have read the story but Paul did a very good job. I also realize that people have different likes and dislikes so it might not be for you. I do though recommend giving it a chance and not letting negative reviews sway your opinion.

A throwback to happier times

For those who remember D&D in it's glory days, or for those you have discovered it more recently, this book brings back to life a fantasy story first told in the 1980s, before internet and mobile phones.

Was my first

What made the experience of listening to Dragons of Autumn Twilight the most enjoyable?

Dragonlance was my first experience with fantasy when i was young and I'm enjoying them again now. Last time I read the paperbacks it wasn't the same- I read to fast or just anticipated too much but having it in audio book format makes me pay more attention to every part again.

What about Paul Boehmer’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed his reading for the most part although some of the main character voices were a little too close or maybe mixed up so it was sometimes hard to tell which character was talking

Narrator probably wasn't the best choice.

Narrator tries, but fails on execution. There's something that doesn't sit right about a gentleman mimicking several female voices. Perhaps if there were co narrators.

horribly read.

the reader is so robotic. often reading each word in the sentence and not the sentence. strange pauses that sound like they are mid sentence and quite monotone.

Greatest fantasy trilogy ever written

In my opinion, one of the greatest trilogies ever written. Hopefully one day a movie can be made. If you are into fantasy, this is a must read.

I love this book!

I read this 20 years ago as a teenager and it still holds me in rapt attention. I love that I can now listen to it, since I have little time to sit still. The narrator isn't the best with the higher voices: women and Tasslehoff. He does a moderately good job otherwise.
