Pay another visit to Pern.

This book takes on a new cast of characters in the Pern Dragonrider series. I've read, not listened to, many of the other books set in this world and thoroughly enjoyed them. The premise of this story is rather vague, the writing is awkward and the plot development is tediously slow. The end of this book seems very far away.
Married, middle-age, owner of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a messy house.
I have read many Pern books, mostly by Anne M, but a few of Todd M's. This one was full of unrelenting death, with no resolution at the end. I understand it is a "middle" story, where the end is told elsewhere, in another book, but this one left me depressed. I feel that the story was stopped, not ended, as too many things were left hanging. The deaths were also handled unevenly. The characters responded to some deaths very emotionally, and others were mere numbers on a wall.
I will read reviews of Todd M's books more closely now, to see if this book is an anomaly or if this is just his style of writing. The story itself is very good, but the writing feels unfinished. If you haven't read Pern books before, read another one first.
Poet, Writer, Novice Planetary Scientist, Musician, Hooligan, Former Audience Guy, Protector of Stupid Princesses.
This book inconsistant. I enjoyed it, but the plot never really got resolved, and I really learned more then I cared to know about the supporting cast while wondering what was going to happen to the main character and the world. There were huge holes that were never filled in. Todd needs a different and more critical editor if he is going to fly on his own. I'll read more Pern novels if he writes them just because I like them. I won't be waiting with great anticipation for the next one, and that is a shame. Oh - and Let's NOT do the Time Plot Again.... please!
One of the main problems that I found with this audio book was the reader. This is not one that she, in my opinion, should read. Her voice lends itself more to romance than science fantasy. The story itself is not bad, but with a different reader could be a lot better. My attention wanders, and like I said if it had a more forceful reader I don't think that would happen.
Todd - Would you please, please, please review your mother's books so that you can avoid all the continuity issues. While this was better than his last couple of attempts at recreating Pern, Todd McCaffrey continues to load his books with lots of daily details with not so much story line.
In my opinion, Dragonheart is only valuable to round out a PERN-lover's book collection. Todd's writing is not up to Anne's standard. The book was not improved by Emily's reading. She was probably given it because the main character is young, but her voice doesn't lend itself to the delivery of stronger male characters.
Stuggled to finish it. Lots if repeat catch phrases like...'eyes flashing...'. The reader's voice range and consistency across characters and through the book was poor
Maybe I'm just spoiled but Ms Durante's performance is not nearly as enjoyable as Dick Hill's. Also, sorry to say but Anne writes much better. Just saying....
