doesn't live up to the rest of pern

love pern....this book, however, was a struggle. The story...for me...just kind of spun its wheels

Somewhat disappointing

In my opinion, Dragonheart is only valuable to round out a PERN-lover's book collection. Todd's writing is not up to Anne's standard. The book was not improved by Emily's reading. She was probably given it because the main character is young, but her voice doesn't lend itself to the delivery of stronger male characters.

The difference between a good reader and not.

One of the main problems that I found with this audio book was the reader. This is not one that she, in my opinion, should read. Her voice lends itself more to romance than science fantasy. The story itself is not bad, but with a different reader could be a lot better. My attention wanders, and like I said if it had a more forceful reader I don't think that would happen.

awful narration

the girlish voice is atrocious, only fit for die hard Pern fans who can't read the book.

Nice to revisit Pern, but he is NOT his mother

An interesting addition to the Pern landscape, but it is missing something. Not very engaging.

Durante is a new narrator for me, a happy addition

I enjoyed the story. I note Durante read well, keeping characters and voices distinct. She is a good match with Dick Hill for carrying this series forward.

rough around the edges

This book takes on a new cast of characters in the Pern Dragonrider series. I've read, not listened to, many of the other books set in this world and thoroughly enjoyed them. The premise of this story is rather vague, the writing is awkward and the plot development is tediously slow. The end of this book seems very far away.

Better than the last one

Todd - Would you please, please, please review your mother's books so that you can avoid all the continuity issues. While this was better than his last couple of attempts at recreating Pern, Todd McCaffrey continues to load his books with lots of daily details with not so much story line.

Hmmm, ok

This is not the best in the series, although it is not a bad story. It is just long and is not much more than a fill-in book.

The narrator was weak with voices and consistency using different voices. Sometimes the men sounded like old ladies and (young) women sounded like old ladies. The only consistent voice was Fiona’s and I remember once when the narrator made Fiona’s voice sound like an old lady. She just has one of those voices that is pleasant enough but doesn’t have much range.
