Publisher's summary

On the beautiful planet Pern, colonized for centuries, Land Holders and Craftsmen have traditionally tithed food and supplies to the dragonweyrs to which they are bound. In times past, the mighty telepathic dragons and their riders were the only protection from the dreaded, life-threatening Thread.

But it has been over 400 years since the last Threadfall, and some people have come to doubt that the menace will every strike again. But F'lar, rider of Pern's greatest bronze dragon, has no such illusions. The Red Star is near; Thread will fall soon.

Book another flight with the Dragonriders of Pern.

A well crafted story worth your time. PG13

A well crafted story that is excellently performed by the reader. This is an adventure that any gender will enjoy. I give it a PG13 for the mating scene. However, it is not graphic. I always encourage parents to experience a story before handing it over for youths. I look forward to the next story in the series.

One of my favorite series!

I first read this series over 30 years ago. I loved it this time around as much as I did then. It took a little bit to get used to Dick Hill's narration (I don't think he was the best choice) but once I did, I was transported back to the world of Pern and its dragon riders. The strong character of Lessa has been an inspiration for me since a young age.

Wonderful!!!

This is such a great addition to the story of Prrn! Everything that is confusing is always explained in such a natural way that it is a joy to read.

Thank You.

You've given a new dimension to a series I've read repeatedly. i grew up with Andre Norton and Anne McCaffrey. The narrator was very good!

I will read the others

for an almost 50 year old book, it holds up well to today's standards. but it is clearly an old book. I look forward to the other books.

Why change the term "thread" to "threads"?

The original stories used the term "thread" in the singular. The change is presumptive and offensive.

What were they thinking?

At this point, Anne's books are classics and a bit chauvinistic by today's standards but the story is still compelling. What boggles me is what the producers were thinking when they hired such a deep voiced male narrator for a book whose primary character is female, and whose primary ensemble cast of characters is all under 25. The only character for whom this narrator's voice might be appropriate is Robinton and we don't encounter him until the tale is nearly finished.

This was a great trip down memory lane in many ways, but really, what were they thinking when they produced this version??

Took me back

Listening to this book really took me back to my childhood. I read many of the Pern books as a kid, and really loved this. I can't wait to re-discover more of them! I had no idea they were available on Audible. I enjoyed this one so much. The performance was great and it was a joy listening to it.
