Publisher's summary

Ghoulies. Ghosties. Long-legged beasties. Things that go bump in the night....

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right? It would be, if it weren't for the talking mice, the telepathic mathematicians, the asbestos supermodels, and the trained monster-hunter sent by the Price family's old enemies, the Covenant of St. George.

When a Price girl meets a Covenant boy, high stakes, high heels, and a lot of collateral damage are almost guaranteed. To complicate matters further, local cryptids are disappearing, strange lizard-men are appearing in the sewers, and someone's spreading rumors about a dragon sleeping underneath the city....

Can't stand the voice!

The story is good but I could not finish listening to the audio book, I just had to read it on my kindle. I could not stand listening to the narrators voice. It was like nails on a chalk board and wad totally ruining the story for me. A good story teller makes all the difference!

Amazing story

The story is fun and unique. The narrator is not the best, I found her too perky, but the novel is well worth your credit.

meh

it was an okay listen. The concept was good, balance between progressing the story and descriptions wavered too much. I have no desire to hear any more in this series

Equal mix of like and eye rolling.

Not your ordinary fantasy story. While fun the story is a modge podge of all the creatures in all societies. Some of the storyline is in the eye rolling department and borderline lame, but overall I liked it and will try the next book. As long as you don't take this book too seriously this was a fairly decent story. If you're looking for something with a bit of romance that doesn't describe the sex scenes this may be a book to try. The mice were a bit weird and living with mice is gross, I liked them in the book, the mice reminded me of the little aliens on Men in Black that worshiped J and K, "all hail J, all hail K". Narrator was annoying at first, but as you get going in the book I ended up liking her for this character.

Not Bad not great

Would you try another book from Seanan McGuire and/or Emily Bauer?

Yes

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was about as expected.

Which scene was your favorite?

When she was hanging upside down on the rooftop

Could you see Discount Armageddon being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No not really

Any additional comments?

Surprising, enjoyed it in a pulpy kind of read. Nothing too substantial a good book to kill time with

Fun!

This was a great one! I foresee becoming a big fan of this series! Adventure, romance, cheeky humor, and fantasy. Definitely credit worthy!

starts slow but picks up quickly

the high pitch of the narrator was hard to get used to at first .
story starts slow but picks up with more depth gradually. characters are interesting and not flat . doesn't delve into a fantasy world as much as bringing it to the surface of ours . worth listening to.

Good story love the mice

I really enjoyed this but the narrator isn't my cup of tea. She did a good job, inflection ect. but I don't enjoy high pitched voices so I'll stick with the ebooks.

Other than that I want more of the aslin mice! Good story, good world building and the characters are great.

Tell not show

The author undermines the main character by trying too hard to tell you she's a bad ass, and the voice actor is talented but doesn't sell the character's experience and trauma. It's still fun, but I wouldn't have finished it without a glowing recommendation for the series as a whole.

inrestingbook if you like lots supernatural things

the story was good it keep my interest and made my bus rides to class not seem so long. I like that they used new types of monsters in the book then the norm. the only majr problem I had with the book was the narrator she did a great job for most the book but there were a few clear mistakes in her reading ruined my immersion define. this mostly happened when she is speaking out someone and calls a lady him or calling a man she.
