Publisher's summary

Once, Sarah Bingham's biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, she's landed in the middle of a battle between corrupt vampires and powerful immortals who also need blood to survive. Roland Warbrook is the most compelling man Sarah has ever laid hands on. But his desire for her is mingled with a hunger he can barely control...

In his nine centuries of immortal existence, no woman has tempted Roland as much as Sarah. But asking her to love him is impossible---when it means forfeiting the world she's always known, and the life he would do anything to protect.

This is the second time I have read/listened to this series and all I can say is that Dianne Duvall is extremely talented! You set up this series soooo well in this first book! Kirsten, you brought every character to life, bravo!

Grown-up paranormal love story

This book is definitely a romance in a paranormal world with action and mystery thrown in. I think it’s awesome. The love and dedication between Roland and Sarah make this a worthy love story. There’s a lot of character development and I am excited for the next books to see what happens to Marcus, Seth, David and the mystery woman. I’m also excited to hear more about Sarah and Roland so I hope their story continues in the other books. One of my favorite things about this book is that Sarah is an adult, not a young adult and not a teen, but an adult. She is confident in herself and knows her own mind. Roland is not over bearing or oppressive. Sarah may be human, but Roland treats her as an equal. I’m putting this one in my collection for re-listens. Oh yeah, narration was awesome. 👍🏻

Love the series

Waiting for David, Chuck & Imotep's stories. Want to see if David will end up on one of the other planets. Also, will the watcher's get involved to stop the Gathendians.

Excellent feel good story

This is a great book! I have listened to it several times. If you’re looking for a book that has excitement without drama this is it. The story is great and you will love the characters. This book draws you into the immortal guardian world and you will want to read the whole series. If you do listen to the series you won’t be disappointed.

A Prius?!? Really?

Enjoyed the book. However, I am happy I started reading another book in the series first or I would have missed out on some really good books. The mc’s are hot badasses with swords, leather, and fangs but they chase their foes in. A. Prius?!? Oh and they are organic eating vegetarians with carnivore fangs that act like sieves for the blood they need ( the don’t drink blood because they have filter fangs). Okay. I love organic foods and value my environment but that kind of put a crimp in the story for me.
However, the performance was excellent and the story was good. Lots of well written action. A decent start to a good series.

Great Performance!!

I LOVED the narrator! Usually when either a man or a woman read the opposite sex (male character or female character) they sound ridiculous, but she does an excellent job of creating characters you can believe are really talking. I have read these books in print but she make them come alive.

Great read, but slow compared to others.

I have read that this is Dianne Duvalls first book. If that is true, well done. I thought the story was a good one, the action kept pace with the book and the characters likable. I also felt that compared to the the other books I have "read" recently in this category, I felt it was a bit slow and the action not as robust as I had been accustomed.

I enjoyed Kirsten's narration of the book. I felt that the narrater carried me through, not the "read" itself. I did however like the lead into finding out who the mystery woman was and hope her existence comes to light in the second series, though the summary doesn't mention her at all.

If you have "read" any of the other books I have reviewed and are reading one of Diane's for the first time, I would caution that her pace is a little slower than others but I would definately urge you to read on.

I will be purchasing the second series, in hopes to find out more about the mystery woman and to see if the pace changes any!

One last thing, thank you Diane for not cutting the book off abruptly at the end when Seth gives Sarah and Roland the good news. I appreciate it!

Interesting

Just starting this series. If remaing books are as good as this one, I will be well pleased.. I love the story line and the characters. Just the right amount of action and romance.
