Experience the first Killashandra Ree adventure, in which the indomitable Killa overcomes disappointment in one career by diving into a much more exciting one. Filled with suspense, anguish, romance, and intrigue, this distinctive adventure is one of Anne McCaffrey's best.

I love this series, and I bought the audio series to share it with my boyfriend. The first book's audio quality leaves much to be desired. I also wish there was an unabridged version available. While this version gives a good feel for the overall story, I very much miss the rest (the extra characterization of minor characters, how the guild runs, etc).
First (and this is my own stupid fault for not noticing before buying), it's an abridged version. At under three hours, there's less than half the novel here.
Second, the audio quality is truly terrible. It sounds like the reader has their head stuffed in a cotton-lined bucket. Muffled, dull and damned near unlistenable.
The way half or more of it has been edited out.
The reader might, in other projects, be quite good--but in this one, the terrible quality of the recording overrides anything she might bring to the story.
The audio is bad enough that I haven't been able to finish it, and I'd like a refund so...no.
Don't waste your money or credits.
One of my favorite McCaffrey books, I was really looking forward to it, but the crackling of the sound quality is awful!
As long as it is not an abridged version
Make the recording an unabridged version. To many "little details" that are not important, but really round out the book, are missing from this abridged version. Things like the Symbiant transaction makes the senses so much more sensitive, including eyesite and that is why Killa needed contacts off world.
Didn't have one
If you have read the book, you will be sorely disappointed in the abridged version. If you have not, you might enjoy, but will have missed so many little things that make the book so much more enjoyable.
The clarity of the download was difficult to listen to. I might have been the American accent but others have been OK. Also the abbreviation has missed all those small personal details that make this a worthwhile author.
I like her books but will not get another abridged version
Her voice may be OK but the recording was bad
Disappointment verging on sadness at the loss of a good book
A book that I love, CRYSTAL SINGER deserves 2 improvements: to be unabridged, and to be reproduced on good sound equipment. Adrienne Barbeau also deserves good sound equipment. However, since this is what is currently available, I will listen to it again. I've been hooked on the song of the crystal ranges since I first read this.
I actually love this book. The abridging was done with a broadsword and not a scalpel ruining a good book. By all means read this book but skip the abridged version. Some day maybe an
unabridged version will be made.
I loved the story of The Crystal Singer, but the narrator made it difficult to enjoy. She read so fast it sounded like she was being paid by WPM (words per minute). An as far as trying to differentiate between characters, there was barely (if any) effort. The Crystal Singer deserves better.
A great listen looking forward to the rest of the series even though this is the abridged version, I would recommend it.
