There are incidents and emergencies in the world that defy logical explanation, events that could be defined as supernatural, extraterrestrial, or simply otherworldly. Standard laws do not allow for such instances, nor are most officials or authorities trained to handle them. In recognition of these facts, one organization has been created that can. Assembled by a loose international coalition, their mission is to deal with these situations using diplomacy, guile, force, and strategy as necessary. They shield the rest of the world from their own actions, and clean up the messes left in their wake. They are our protection, our guide, our sword, and our voice, all rolled into one.
They are O.C.L.T.
Nothing is ever normal in Old Mill, NC, particularly when Cletus J. Diggs and his buddy Jasper decide to go fishing. When Jasper tells him two fishermen they know saw a dinosaur in The Great Dismal Swamp, Cletus is ready to chock it up to shadows and too much beer. When he and Jasper are out fishing themselves and find a bass boat jammed nose first into the bottom of the Perquimans River with nothing left of the other two men but a boot with a leg protruding from it and one big-assed track in the mud, things get serious.
Joined by Geoffrey Bullfinch, Wendell "Mack" Macklemore, and Isabella Ferrara of the O.C.L.T., two genetic scientists with a strange story of hurricanes and DNA splicing, and a strange cast of others (including a very loud cockatiel), Cletus has to solve the mystery of where the monster killing people in the swamp came from, where it's gone, and find a way to stop it before it kills again. Unfortunately for the team, taking down a 40 foot, 16 ton dinosaur no one believes in is no easy task, and the clock is ticking.

This was very much a fun and "creature feature" type of fun. One where it takes little effort to follow but is lots of fun to listen to. It's a tongue in cheek, over the top, oodles of fun, book. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the dinosaur crock crossed with a cockatile bird thing, causing havoc in The Great Dismal Swamp. Add in some rednecks, some scientists and you have a lazy day read!!
I'm not going to get into the plot because it would spoil all the fun and surprises, but I will say that the book is well written and one you can't help but love. It's filled with action, adventure, giant crock things, a very loud and annoying bird, trigger happy rednecks and enough drama to keep everyone happy ;) I didn't realise this was book 5 in the O.C.L.T series but it can be read as a stand alone. I'm definitely going to check out the rest in the series and realy hope they are all so outlandish ;)
I had no issue with Arthur Flavell's narration. He read the book well and was easy to listen to.
I received the book, at no charge, from the publisher. This in NO way affected or influenced my thoughts.
Fun take on a dinosaur? mix that is cooked up in a lab and accidentally lost in the wild. Since I'm a FL girl and spent part of my childhood hunting w/family in the everglades, I truly believe this could and can happen anywhere. The setting in North Carolina is told so well I felt like I was in the boat w/the gang (but happy I really wasn't).
I'm a sucker for dino's and secret special op monster hunters, so can't wait to see what else O.C.L.T. and Cletus' gang get up to next.
I Double D Dog Dare you to to give this a listen. Lots of fun with big teeth.

I like a wide range of genres. Favorites include Horror, SciFi, Fantasy, Thriller, LGBT, classics and history.
I mostly enjoyed this book. It was a bit slow for my tastes. I would have thought a book with a mutated dinosaur would have had more action in it. The story was fairly interesting, enough to hold my attention. I did enjoy the characters. Especially Jasper. He was hilarious. Isabella was the most unlikable character ever. I did enjoy the sarcastic humor. That's always a winner for me.
The narrator did a great job. Loved his accents.

Any part of the story with Cletus.
I thought he did a good job with the different characters. I would listen to him again.

What can go wrong with a concept like that. I love that the author acknowledges the grade b sci fi channel movies as inspiration. I love those movies and olive this story! I can't wait to read more by this author! It is well written campy sci fi. The narrator perfectly captured the voiced of the characters and delivers on all the campy stereotype accents. I don't know that it's the type of book that I would listen to again, but it was a pretty fun book. At no time did I feel like I was making myself "plow" through a section. The author did a pretty good job of making the characters and the storyline interesting.
A couple scenes fit the bill. The final battle is entertaining and easy to see it play out.
First time. He does a good job with the different characters. He plays the redneck especially well.
If time allowed, I could have. It's not destined to be a classic, or even a movie, but a general good time in the realm of science fiction.

This was a really fun listen. Sharknado type story line with dinosaurs in a swamp. The characters were surprisingly well developed and likable. This book is like a roller coaster, you know what's coming, but it's still a fun ride.
It's strange and a little hard admit, but I actually liked Cletus, yes he's off putting, yes he's an alcoholic, yes I'd like him on my side if we're fighting prehistoric dinosaur!
This is an odd little book completely implausible, a double d mess and I enjoyed it!

Wacky, goofy, and quirky
The whole story was nicely paced.
Arthur Flavell brings a Southern flavor to the book.
