Harry Dresden lives!

After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness.

After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill. Guess which one Mab wants first?

Of course, it won’t be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday.

Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own… his soul.

Great Dresden Story

This one is a lot of worldbuilding and i love it. Changes was epic. This has a different kind of epicness. Butcher has done a fantastic job creating continuous depth to characters and the world. I am excited to keep going.

Back in the Saddle

Marsters does his best work yet in differentiating character voices. Butcher is back in the swing of it.

Love the series

This is my 3rd listen through, James was able to truly paint a picture in my mind of story as if it was a TV show or movies playing with the distinct voices used for characters and such. Was a little off during the first couple books as he didn't use as many voices. The Story it's self is also amazing love the journey that Dresden goes through and the developments in his life that has molded him into a fantastic character. (Toot Toot is my favorite character in the whole series just saying)

Wanting More. . .

What made the experience of listening to Cold Days the most enjoyable?

James Marsters is, for me, the voice of The Dresden Files. I bought the hardcover first and devoured it in 2 days. I had already preordered the audio book but had to read it myself before listen. I just finished both and must say the compliment each other well.

What other book might you compare Cold Days to and why?

For me personally, there is no comparison. All of Dresden's books stand alone. But to give an idea where I'm coming from I put Jim Butcher up there with Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Kim Harrison, Arthur C. Clark and Robert Ludlum. These are authors whose books I can read again and again. For me it's not about endings or spoilers, it's about the journey through the story.

Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?

Thomas. If they make a movie I would love to see James play Thomas.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I could neither put the book down until it was done, nor could i stop listening to the audiobook until the ending.

Any additional comments?

I didn't have problems with Ghost Story like a few did. I think every Harry Dresden story gets better then the last. Cold Days is no exception to this rule.

James Marsters is Harry Dresden

Where does Cold Days rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My single favorite audio book to this point.

What other book might you compare Cold Days to and why?

First and foremost this is a worthy successor to changes. Not that ghost story did not have its moments but the sheer scope and brilliance of this work compares to Changes as Butchers best. It is tough to compare Cold Days to another author, as Jim Butcher is currently the definitive Urban Fantasy in the world today.

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

Everything, I have already laughed out loud numerous times. His willingness to do voices for the dew drop fairies were of particular note.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, several but hard to describe without spoilers.

Any additional comments?

I have finished the book and am about 10 hours into the audio book and felt I had enough of a base to give the audio book a review. Put simply this is the best audio book released this year and among my favorites of all time. I would recommend to anyone.

Harry's Back!

Where you been, Harry? We missed you.

This is vintage Dresden. He's in trouble on several fronts, facing three do-or-die deadlines and facing impossible foes. In this, arguably the most successful urban fantasy series yet, Butcher continues to deliver old friends and new twists.

And Marsters is back in the saddle. (Missed you too, guy.)

Wonderful story...outstanding book.

I wish I had six stars.

So when's the next one coming? Huh?

David
