Hugo Award Winner for Best Series

The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Now a Prime Original series.

Enter a new frontier.

"An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire.

Independent settlers stand against the overwhelming power of a corporate colony ship with only their determination, courage, and the skills learned in the long wars of home. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world. The struggle on Ilus threatens to spread all the way back to Earth.

James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the midst of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail.

And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilization that once stood on this land is gone. And that something killed it.

This series keeps getting better!

This book increases the drama and intensity, stirs the emotions, and finds ways to smack you with the unexpected. Hard to find more ways to express how much I love this series. I never want it to end.

Cautious alterations to status quo

If you liked the first 3 this will be fine. It almost reads like a remix of the first 3. out of control corporate folks, humans behaving badly, physics related problems caused by an over active proto molecule.. Reaches back to follow up on some side characters from 1st and 2nd yet we get almost no Draper and Avisavala for second book in a row.. It's a nice read, has some decent humor.. Holden and company are tip top as always.. Don't expect anything ground breaking. this is a slow alteration to the status quo after the last one..

What happened to the old narrator??

Outstanding book, pisses me off they swapped the voice behind it all. That's my only gripe.

The story continues

This continues the terrific writing and plot twists of the earlier books. It moves from one crisis to another like the Star Wars stories. Can't wait to start the next book.

To be updated when I I finish

The narrator is absolutely the best I’ve ever heard. I listen mostly to nonfiction, so that very well could be skew my experiences, but this guy is really good. He does a really terrific job of making each character an individual of their own. He’s fantastic. Props to J Mays.

I get a little annoyed with some little things in the story, like calling women “sir” is they’re in a position of authority. WTF! Why? Why is ma’am anything less than sir? I just don’t get it. Just one example. Ultimately, I have a great degree of respect and appreciation for the attention to detail James S. A. Corey have taken in creating their world and their characters, their captivating plot, and circumstances.

A wonderful continuation

The further into the series these books bring me, the more subtle deeper variations come to light. Leviathan Wakes was a great alternative to the Expanse Series and followed it very closely.

Cibola Burn has enough deeper branching paths to surpass its visual counterpart. The stories are still close enough to be completely recognizable. And nothing is so different as to be unrecognizable.

Character development is where these books really start accessorizing and showing how much more there is. The start middle and end is all the same, but the paths that lead us are narrower, spindlier, and open to wide open vistas offering glimpses of so much more.

Not my favorite book in The Expanse so far...

but I enjoyed it. I particularly appreciated the new characters, and how dynamic some were.

As always, excellent narration by Jefferson Mays.
