Publisher's summary

With Wizard's First Rule and seven subsequent masterpieces, Terry Goodkind has thrilled readers worldwide with the unique sweep of his storytelling. Now, in Chainfire, Goodkind returns with a novel of Richard and Kahlan, the beginning of a sequence of three novels that will bring their epic story to its culmination.

After being gravely injured in battle, Richard awakes to discover Kahlan missing. To his disbelief, no one remembers the woman he is frantically trying to find. Worse, no one believes that she really exists, or that he was ever married. Alone as never before, he must find the woman he loves more than life itself....if she is even still alive. If she was ever even real.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Chainfire Trilogy and the Sword of Truth series.

Critic reviews

"Bond's somewhat understated style and relaxed, steady pace keep the story moving and help listeners sustain interest from start to finish. The characters' secrets and political maneuverings are in good hands with Bond." ( AudioFile)

Story is good but as usual, narrator is horrible

The story is really good but I really hate this Narrator and not to mention the recording quality is terrible. Many times the audio level will go up and down and the sound quality itself is just bad.

awesome story and great narrator

I'm a huge fan of the series and after reading it multiple times myself I'm glad the narrator was able to actively hold my attention. Great book and great narrator. I highly recommend this!

excellent series

Terry Goodkind spins a great tale. Also included are excellent studies on human nature, spirituality vs religiosity, and economic models and their unintended consequences! This series should be required reading for all high school seniors so they will have a realistic understanding of these topics prior to the liberal indoctrination of college professors!

Divided, but worth the read!

I love the series but the reiterating of all the previous books had me skipping chapters! HOWEVER, the new characters and the storyline is great! And you can't skip the book as it's a cliffhanger book!

excellent story, lousy narration

I'd love to hear this series read by anyone but Jim Bond. his over-enunciation is infuriating. There has to be someone else who can narrate these stories. I almost stopped listening several times because of it. His inability to separate character voices at times, drives me crazy. my OCD insists there be at least some competency where that is involved.

Having read this series a few times, I love the series. Goodkind was an amazing writer. His ability to pull the reader into the story is rare.

But this narrator........

The imagery was most riveting and the twists in the plot were surprising and astounding.

I liked the fact that the author found a way to incorporate all the previous book plots in the story while adding new characters and situations for future volumes.

the voice actor was actually terrible.

at point he read in an angry voice where the text specifically says something different. i am glad there is a different actor for the next book. *crosses fingers that richard isn't a know it all in this one too*

Drove me nuts.

Nobody believing Richard it was making me angry the entire time. Love/hate at it's finest.

Audio issues, but nothing that stopped me

The audio is muddy, and the volume jumps or drops between some chapters. Kind of annoying.

As a completist, the audio issues were tolerable.
