Past & Future Fun for Time Travel Lovers

Awww man, where do I get started with this one? Every once in a while I take a random chance on a book because the premise is just too cool to pass even though I'm completely unfamiliar with the author. BUTTERMAN TIME TRAVEL, INC. was totally worth the chance I took on it and if you love a good time traveling adventure then you will dig this story. But it's so much more than just a time-travelling caper.

Bianca is on the cusp of becoming a fully licensed time traveler when former boy-bander, Tristan Helms, comes to Butterman Time Travel, Inc. looking to take a trip into his past. He's willing to pay a lot more than the going rate for his trip and with a nosy government auditor hovering over the family business Bianca has to find a way to get Tristan on his way without any rule breaking. Of course, it's never that easy and with Tristan's recent stint in rehab under his belt trying to keep the pop star out of trouble may prove too much.

I really don't want to give too much away but if you geek on music and musical legends, scifi technology and futuristic imaginings, things like Doctor Who, with splashes of romance you will love What Hrezo has conjured up in BUTTERMAN TIME TRAVEL, INC. I wasn't too sure if I was digging it at first because it takes a few chapters to absorb the culture of the future Bianca is in but once the story picks up there are lots of chuckle inducing moments and just the right amount of romantic tension to keep you on the edge of your seat.

In regards to the audio, I didn't particularly love the narrator's performance, there were times her prosody and intonation felt a bit over/under the tone of the actual text being performed. Other times there were falterings and stammers in the speech that weren't edited out and were distracting. I wasn't overly happy with the narration and editing of the audio but it wasn't bad either. I very much liked her voice for Bianca (this is first person so it suited it well). Whether you choose to enjoy it in audio or in text it was a very good read and one I will be recommending to my Doctor Who loving friends looking for a fun time travel adventure.

Don't be a Butterdud, Book your travel today!

Have you ever wanted to time travel? Have you ever stopped to think where would you go, and what about the how? Hang on to your buffer suits, because this book will take you not only to a short time in the future where time travel is a business but it will also take you back to some of the best times in rock music.

Butterman Time Travel starts off a little slow with Bianca Butterman explaining all of the how-tos. You can just feel how Tristan’s (hot boy band member) must feel – ya ya rules yada yada. Tristan has booked a trip to go back to before he was involved with drugs to rescue his career. Ah, yes what we all wouldn’t do for a do over. But you know it can’t be that easy. What’s meant to be will happen, right? Or maybe not?

Once the book gets thrumming along there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. You wonder along with Bianca, what is going on, why is the government trying to screw with the family business and particularly this trip which is her inaugural trip piloting solo. Due to the government interference, Bianca and Tristan end up at Woodstock. You can almost feel how it affects Bianca and makes her change. I almost wished for a soundtrack at that point and I’m certainly changing my playlist.

I really felt the connection with Bianca. Bianca is at that age where she’s taking charge, knows what she’s supposed to do, what the rules are. Yet at the same time she still has the questions and a tad of insecurity that we all have at 20. I Ioved how Tristan plays on her last name, teasing her in that way that guys will do when they don’t want to just say they like someone.

This book did a fantastic job of describing the future from the basics of clubbing, to technology changes that one would expect in the near future, to the government still being the government. Do you want to know if Tristan was able salvage his career? Guess you’ll have to book a trip with Butterman Time Travel to find out. Don’t be a Butterdud – book today!

Butterman (Time) Travel, Inc. is "Extra Ordinary"

Would you try another book from P.K. Hrezo and/or Bryarly Bishop?

The story had a few interesting moments, but was overall thin and lacking of substance. I'm sure a few teenage girls anxious to travel through time with their favorite boy-band squeeze "might" enjoy the plot? But most of us would rather... not.

What was most disappointing about P.K. Hrezo’s story?

The concept of a potentially dangerous time travel device being entrusted to an 18 year-old is... well... silly. But then letting her go on her first self-supervised time trip with a sad boy-band love interest is kind of just ridiculous. Oh... and after about the 20th or so elaboration describing his "steely blue eyes" I was ready for a barf bag. Cheese.

What didn’t you like about Bryarly Bishop’s performance?

Bryarly has potential, but REALLY needs a quality producer to supervise her sessions, and a skilled editor to fix her stumbles. Every voice over artist has stumbles, restarts and retakes, but they are removed prior to release. "Butterman" has several per chapter. Once she actually stopped, took a short pause, then restarted the paragraph from the top. On other occasions she read a few words – or sometimes whole sentences – in the wrong character voice. Yikes!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Butterman?

I would place Ms. Bishop in a quality recording booth to avoid the ambient noise that litters the read. (It sounds as if she read this while under a blanket in her closet). Also the 5-10+ second dead zones between chapters was irritating.

Any additional comments?

Overall it wasn't horrible. But certainly NOT worth the price of admission.

love the story

I loved the story and have both listened to and read it. I am not thrilled with the narrator chosen, she definitely wasn't what I was expecting after reading the book. But that happens when you read a book first and get a voice in your head. she did do a good job and I only heard a few hiccups that weren't caught in editing. Overall it was definitely a 5 STAR book! I can't wait for the next one now!!

had so much potential

the narrator's vocal fry was SO strong I almost stopped listening in the first chapter, her voice was so distracting. it took me until chapter ten, to be able to block it out enough to hear the story. she turned an already shallow book into some valley girl rendition of " that time I, like, time travelllled?" <( That's an up-talk vocal fry statement, by the way.)

I'm very disappointed, and can't believe I actually spent money on this drivel. I will be making a point to never listen to a book narrated by this person again.

the writing was very pulp fiction, heavy on the stereotypes, cliche, and fame worship. the word sublime was used so much it was nauseating. there was an over all vapid feel, that was not appreciated.

Story was good but the performance was not so good

Low budget narration. You could hear pages being turned and noises in the background.

Not liking the reader

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The reader spoke quickly, slurred some words, and did not enunciate well at times. Some of the character voices were odd and sounded alike which took away from the story. I loved the story idea, was lost with some of the technical jargon when listening, but enjoyed the author's vision. I have the Kindle version and used Whispersync to switch back and forth. I enjoyed reading this story much more than listening to the audible version.

Surprisingly good story.

I thought it was going to be too cute from a young female point of view but that was essential to this time travel story. I plan to get other books from Hrezo.

Liked the story

First of all, I really liked Bianca. She is a great lead character that is at the brink of life as an adult.
Tristan won't make the top ten of my favorite heroine love interests but, I can understand how a girl could fall for outward charm, abs to die for, and a pretty smile. It has been done before.
The time travel was cleverly written and, my eyes never once glazed over because of a barrage of scientific mumbo jumbo.
The narrator, however, got to me. I thought she had a great voice and tone but the recording desperately needed to be edited before release. There were a number of errors and stumbles that distracted from the story. There were audible places where you tell the recording had been paused and restarted.
Overall, I would listen to the next book. Hopefully there will be a better director over the audio.
