Publisher's summary

A novella and 12 stories from a master of supernatural horror.

Father John has lived his whole life without knowing a woman's touch. Hard at first, his self-denial grew easier over time, as he learned to master his urges with a regimen of prayer, cold showers, and jigsaw puzzles. That changes the day that Debra Rocks enters his confessional. A rough-talking adult film actress, she has come to ask him to pray for a murdered costar. Her cinnamon perfume infects Father John, and after she departs he becomes obsessed. Around the corner from his church is a neon-lit alley of sin. He goes there hoping to save her life before he damns himself.

That is Blue World, the novella that anchors this collection of chilling stories by Robert R. McCammon. Although monsters, demons, and murderers fill this audio, in McCammon's world the most terrifying landscape of all is the barren wasteland of a lost man's soul.

Interesting stories but performance is average.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you are a fan of old school fantasy/horror in the genre of E.C. Comics and the Twilight Zone this is definitely a collection of stories you should listen to or read. McCammon hates being portrayed as the poor man's Stephen King, but it's hard not to since he is every bit as good (and I would argue better) a writer, but he is not as well known by the general public.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Yellachile's Cage is probably my favorite in the Audible format because the reader here seems more engaged than in most of the other stories.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Bronson Pinchot and Kevin T. Collins ?

I am unsure who narrated which stories, but overall (except for a few readings) the performance seemed lackluster and did not do the stories justice. Maybe it was just my mood at the time, but my mind tended to wonder during Yellow Jacket Summer as well as several other stories. Normally I can stay well focused on audio books, but even though the readings weren't necessarily bad, the narration didn't grab me.

Any additional comments?

This is pure vintage McCammon at his best and if you enjoy his early works you should definitely give these short stories a try.

Delicious!

This collection of stories were so fresh and imaginative, some stories were dark and some as joyful as a spring morning but they were all told with such descriptive magic they drew you in to the tale. Full of human nature, magic, fright, suspense and triumph they
held me spellbound. and I truly enjoyed this book. The writing was superb and the narrators talented and well suited to the stories they narrated. Bravo! Well done!

50/50 on the readers

I enjoyed the stories and thought Bronson Pinchot did a great job but every story Kevin T. Collins read annoyed me so much I was dreading listening to them. I really liked the idea of different stories read by different voices just not that particular voice.

My First RMc Book

I actually bought this when I was younger as a paperback book. Here's the thing... I could not put it down !!! I loved it so much, that these many years later, I was thinking about it and I bought it on Audible. Awesome purchase, and even better now that I can just relax, sit down and listen.

Great stories poor narration

The choppy cadence of the reader ruins most of the stories… Fortunately a very good reader does the title story blue world… That story alone is worth the credit

Blue world

The novella blue world was extremely good. The rest were hitter mess. Some stand the test of time and some did not. Still would recommend this book highly.

A great human voice in the horror genre!

McCammon is such a good writer! With as much darkness and morbidity that he can call up, just as much hope and humanity can he bring forth as well! His stories are so rich and filled with color.

1 out of 2 on the readers

I liked most of the stories, but should have taken to heart a review which said in part, ‘every story Kevin T Collins read annoyed me so much I was dreading listening to them’ Well, ditto. On the other hand I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Bronson Pinchot and thank heavens he read the best story in the book, with Father John.
