Publisher's summary

Turned into a vampire against her will, 28-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago's vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye - and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing - among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he'll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

Naysayers be damned...

When I read reviews of this series that are negative because of implausible plot lines, I have to laugh. This is fiction. It does not follow the law of physics, accuracy of historic events or any realistic construct. That’s the beauty of it. I love Chloe Neill’s passion for her characters. Do I wish that previous voice actors would look up a few pronunciations - especially in terms of names? Yes. But I just enjoy the escapism provided by 8 or more hours of distraction from my “This is fine...” commute. I’m invested in the outcomes. And I both laugh and lament appropriately. I’ll keep coming back until this series ends, and I’ll miss the characters when I’m done. Just listen to the book. It’s there for entertainment, not to uncover the secrets of life. Thank you Chloe!

New performer - still good

I am enjoying this series and was worried that the change of audio performance would be a detriment. It wasn’t. Enjoyable read.

another hit for Ms Neill🥰

'undoubtedly', the 'cavalry' has arrived in the form of Sophie Eastlake! and none too soon as far as im concerned!
i also really appreciate that it took this long for m and e to... become... that it didn't happen from the start, like so(ooo) many others. it's been worth the journey so far 🧛❤️‍🔥

This is a great series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If they like the unexpected

What other book might you compare Biting Cold to and why?

The Rachel Morgan series

What does Sophie Eastlake bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

That is an unfair question on this book, as all the previous books were read by Cynthia Holloway. You associate a voice with a character, when that voice changed this late in the series it's hard to connect with the character the same way. If she had read all the books
she would have been great. It was just hard on this one especially the voice of Ethan.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I thought this was one of the better books in the series, you don't want to miss it.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next one!

Love the ending

Can't say I like the way it began but do like the way it ended if you can push through to chapter 12 it then starts to get good

after 5 books a new narrator :(

im sure I'd have no issue w Sophie if she started the series, but she did NOT. after 5 books I came to love Merits snarky attitude and Ethans voice! The range of emotion in Sophies voice just does not come close to Cynthias. that being said it made it very hard to get into this book, because it was like learning the characters all over AGAIN. I wanted to know what happens w Merit and Ethan so I listened, but found myself having to back track a lot. I like audio because I can do things while I listen, that becomes very difficult when you have to really pay attention due to the new pace of the book.

the story line was good, I just really wish the narrator had a voice more similar to Cynthia if the change had to be made.

don't mind the narrator

I haven't rated nor reviewed any of the Chicago land vampire books until now I tried to give this series a chance! I have no issue with the narrator but the story is hard for me to listen to hard to finish have to stop and go to finish. MERRIT I don't like at all she annoys me on every level the stories could be way better the way vampires are shown is frustrating like they are weak and submissive to humans and uptight prissy beings. REALLY WISH MERRIT HAD BEEN DESTROYED IN THAT ROOM was hoping wishing but of course no . Reason being I want to know what happens overall I will torture myself and finish the other books. This is gust my opinion I'm sure some out there who loves this series that's great I was born and raised in the south maybe I can't relate to this book because of that. One more thing MERRIT if that is her on the covers of these books she's not a looker as the series bseem to attempt to make her be.

Pretty good I guess...

The story was pretty good, but not the best. The relationship issue is getting old though. Chloe Neill needs to learn how to write a love scene. I hate books that have the characters kiss and then it's the next day or it says "sometime later" or "afterward". That's a cop-out. Six books now and the romance is pretty boring. Pretty good action, but again, not the best. Nothing like a Jeaniene Frost book.

BARGAIN BASEMENT NARRATION

I love the Chicagoland Vampire series it is well written but it has been totally ruined by changing narrators. There is no distinguishable difference in the male character voices and they all sound as if they have been drugged and about to fall asleep. I’ve already looked ahead and seen Sophie Eastlake narrates the following books and I honestly just don’t know if I can suffer through them. I’m in mourning for the death of a great series of books.

I love this series, BUT....

I love this series and the narration would be okay normally, probably, but... the narrator for the last several books in this series was phenomenal. This one didn't capture Merit's voice. All the men sounded like grandpa's and all the females sound the same. Maybe I'm being too critical, having been spoiled by the last narrator. This one just kind of ruined this book for me.
