Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Thousands of years before the Age of Elminster, dragons rule the skies of Faern, and elves dominate the huge forests that cover the land. Only in the mighty, magical empire of Netheril are men a force to be reckoned with. Bored and haughty in his midair castle, the Netherese mage Candlemas bets fellow wizard Sysquemalyn that a certain barbarian who has caught his eye can survive the most savage tests his friend - and deadly rival - can devise. The only rule: The tests must offer the subject some slight chance to survive.

The letter also outlines a mission: travel back to 1984 and prevent the go-kart accident that will eventually take his father's life. The Buried Giant begins as a couple set off across a troubled land of mist and rain in the hope of finding a son they have not seen in years. His vengeance against the gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive...and teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series - satisfying combat, breathtaking scale, and a powerful narrative - and fuses them anew.

Not quite as good as the first book, but good
This installment in the trilogy is good, but not as good as the first one. It's definitely worth going through for Drew Karpyshyn's conclusion. I kind of feel like Athens isn't as much of a developed writer for the first two Baldur's Gate novels, but he did an overall adequate job. Karpyshyn's conclusion is a major improvement on it, but this is worth a read and/or listen so that you get the full story. Again, the differences from the game breathe a new life into this series for me and made it more enjoyable for me. If I wanted it to be the same as the game, I'd play the game.

I love BG but this was super rushed.
this was really rushed. kind of light on details and story. we just jumped right to it. I feel like the author was a little lazy.

Good continuation. Not great, but still worthwhile.
Not as compelling as the first, but still good... About to try out the third book in the series. The game is fun and rated as a favorite fantasy video game...

"eh" for a sequel
I guess I don't know the Shadows of Amn storyline, but this one was weird. Sex and violence in overdrive - pretty disappointing for beloved game of the past.

Not good.
The narrator was the better part of this, though still not great. The story went from passable to bad. There a lot of spots where if you aren't paying direct attention you will not understand what's going on in the story just from looking away for 5 seconds. Plus, be prepared to hear the name "Abdel" over and over for a minute and a half. Did the author have a word count he had to meet?
