Publisher's summary

The Earth died when aliens rained thermonuclear warheads on her cities and sprayed the surface with a bio-terminator. A deadly poison drifted to every corner of the planet, threatening the last survivors with annihilation.

For a soldier in Antarctica like Creed, there is only one way to keep breathing untainted air. He must bury his hatred of the extraterrestrials and join the Jelk Corporation as an assault trooper, leaving the planet for outer space. In return for his and other people's services, the corporation will house the last humans for as long as the assault troopers keep winning.

For the price of living and the chance to save humanity, Creed has to wear a shock chip in his neck - Jelk discipline is harsh - and he has to don a symbiotic battlesuit that feeds off his sweat. Human life is cheap in the vast alien war. The assault troopers are little more than suicide soldiers, but for humanity to escape extinction, they must survive. But Creed didn't agree to the bargain in order to remain a dog to the aliens. He has a plan, and he'll need all his cunning to beat these star born bastards and begin the road to freedom for the human race.

Assault Troopers is a tale of human extinction and ultimate desperation, written by bestselling author Vaughn Heppner.

Entertaining diversion...

Solid action and main character, good villains. Story is a little silly sometimes, but overall like a good B action movie! Reading the next one to see what happens to Creed, N-7 and the humans!

pretty good

The main character is a little too stupid for my taste at times; which also explains why he keep thinking up a conspiracy theory including aliens and angels and stuff..

other than that, the storyline is fun, the narrator great!
the science explaining is a little scarse, as the main character probably would not understand most of the concepts anyways :)

Big Punch!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would because it kept me on the edge of my seat. Every day I would look forward to the next chapter.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Assault Troopers?

when they were free of the bomb chip!

Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Our last line of defense for the human race

Any additional comments?

Can't wait to get the next e-book of assault troopers

Just plain fun scifi action

Would you consider the audio edition of Assault Troopers to be better than the print version?

Yes. I wouldn't have actually read the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main char, Creed

What does Christian Rummel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voices really brought the characters alive.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction other than couldn't wait to hear more of the story.

Any additional comments?

This would be a perfect male fantasy if there had only been some sex. But hey it's got a typical guy running around shooting aliens, outsmarting the devil, and saving the world.

For me it's all the more fun because I know a couple of people with almost the exact same background and personality as the main character.

Coffe stains on my shirt

I woke suddenly and took stock of where I was. My crusted exo-layer, inability to swallow and low sunlight and defining silence brought home my reality. I was stuck in the dry hard ground. I was home. On this God-forsaken dead planet, I was the last of my kind and I knew without a doubt my time had come. I looked skyward and thanked the great makers for allowing me to witness my own death instead of allowing me to pass in hibernation. Regardless if no other life could hear me. I will shout till I am fallen and no more.

A good light read

An OK book made much better by the always talented narration of Christian Rummel.
This oft used plot of humanity, captured or recruited, by villainous aliens to be used as mercenaries is further enforced by holding the balance of mankind hostage to extinction.

This light read (or listen) is only slightly marred by the over the top, self-aggrandizing, oh so smugly superior alien villains. A writing style that creates antagonists that bring to mind those found in L Ron Hubbard’s Mission Earth series. As part of the plot line some of this fits in but too much tends to detract from the story.

If you’re looking for a light read or listen this one fills the bill.
