Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil. A vampire has attacked a girls' school---the assault one of sheer, vicious madness---and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders. The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear. An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed.

Bought this in paperback as soon as it came out and now listening to it. Nalini Singh could have written another 300 pages and I would have read it with just as much anticipation. The ending came way too soon. Good twists but there was much more steaminess on this one than the previous two novels. I am not complaining...
I would really like to have seen more of the last 1/3 of the book develop but oh well. Guess I am a slave to buy the 4th for that.
I can't compare audio to print. It's like apples and oranges to me as long as the Voice talent is a good one like this series has.
When her mortality in his blood saved him.
No book is one I can listen to in one sitting....
This is an interesting take on good and evil and its relationship to each other as well as to what it's true nature is. This is not run of the mill formula romance or even paranormal fantasy. It is a new rich world where the rules are different than what you are used to and challenges your preconceived notions of many theological ideas and legends.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
I love this series and this is another great book from the series. Loved the story line and the relationship between Elena and Raphael. Can't wait for more of their story!!!
Nalini Singh shows her talent and artistry in this third book in the Archangel series. Doing this while writing other series is a compliment to her ability to keep her focus and her characters true to prior books. In this book Ellie evolves in a believable way and pace, facing conceivable challenges along the path, and her relationship with Raphael continues to mature. I recommend the book to all who have read the first two in the series, and to new readers...buy all three and start with the first one to experience the richness of the entire tale.
I really liked the first two books in this series. The heroine was strong and made up her own mind. In this book she falls apart. When the alpha male tried to control her previously, she came up with intelligent ways to deal with him. Here they have the same boring argument over and over. The heroine seems to devolve into an insecure toddler who is constantly saying "no" for no reason. She has to do everything herself and cannot take help from anyone. This book has more minutes taken over by sex scenes than the first two, but that is instead of interesting plot or character development. If you liked the first two books, you'll probably listen to this one, Justine Eyre does an excellent reading. Just have low expectations. I was very excited but this book doesn't meet the series' standards.
Book addict, romance lover, sometimes blogger, and everyday librarian!
For me, this series is fantastic in audio. Justine Eyre does an excellent job of portraying the different nationalities and male voices, bringing the book to life in a way the print version cannot. I can feel the emotions that Elena is trying to deny--the love/hate she feels for her father, the love and joy being with her friends brings, and the hesitation when it comes to Raphael. The narrator brings to life all the nuances of each character that makes them so real, it's as if you are actually there.
[The audio also helps with the pronunciation of names, which can be very difficult since there are such a range of cultures represented. I would have had no idea how to say Charisemnon if not for the audio. And I don't know about you, but when a name is difficult to pronounce, it kicks me out of the story fast.]
This is a must listen to narrator and a must read story!
Everyone love a good "love story" right? How these two main characters interact with love and desire will sick you into the story fast.
Ms. Eyre's narration is always flawless.
Disciple of the written word and Audible fanatic. I am an Urban and Epic Fantasy Fan. I also enjoy some Paranormal Romance.
I am pleased to say this book holds its own in comparison to the first two and maybe tops them in depth and character development.
Some loose ends are picked up and explained.
Ever wonder what happened to the surviving victim from the first book?
She is back in this book and hints are made that she may be playing a larger part in the future.
Raphael and Elena are in serious trouble in this book and there may be no right answer to the problems thrown their way. (you will see what I mean. I finished it Still wondering)
I can see so many more books springing from this plot line that I can't help but to be excited.
Hunter Born- great kick-a** character but not over the top
This is the 3rd book in the series that I have read. I don't think I will continue the series. Really liked the story line, characters and narration. Would have given a higher rating but didn't think a sex scene every 10th page that takes 2 pages to describe was necessary or did anything to improve the story. I thought that might let up after the 1st or 2nd book but it seems to have gotten worse.
I enjoyed the building storyline about the characters. They seem that they could actually be real people!
I love the entire series. It reminds me of the Daggers Brotherhood series - well written, hard to put down, entrancing....
Oh that's hard to say - each one was awesome!
Yes, definitely but unfortunately I couldn't. I did stay up too late though listening to it though.
Great listen - highly recommend the entire series!
