Publisher's summary

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best - but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option - even if the task is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other - and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

Interesting enough

I liked it but I'm not eager to continue on in the series. The storyline held my interest and I liked the characters but I don't feel the need for more.

A wonderful escape from the everyday world. This books take Twilight to an adult level and more.

Distracting narration

this is one of my favorite series so I bought the audio book... the narration is very distracting lol. I'm not sure if she is purposely voice acting for Elena but to me, it sounded like a refined, elderly woman which did not suit the character.

Great story! Ok narration

I loved the story and the originality of it all. The twist and turns and I’m excited to continue the story. The narration wasn’t to my liking as the narrator sounded bored when reading scenes that meant to be exciting. Almost kinda of monotone. I will still listen to the other books as it’s more convenient.

A perfect way to revisit my favorite author.

Always loved this series. Really enjoyed the narrator and that added touch of character voice was wonderful.

Angel Intrigue!

Some parts of this book are so cheesy it will make you cring. You have a typical conceited love interest, too handsome for his own good, and a complete chauvinistic prick. A strong willed warrior woman that has overcome terrible hardship to become the ideal heroine that will break through the man's heart and make him see the error of his ways. Sound familiar?

Stangely enough through the cheesy romance is a intriguing story, vividly described, that is horrific and compelling. A unique tale where angels sire vampires and they become their slaves. Our heroine is a vampire hunter sworn to catch the vamps and return them to their rightful owners. Add in a dysfunctional family, a childhood tragedy, and an Archangel slaughtering helpless females while descending further into the dark side and you won't be able to stop reading. I am hooked!

A great start

I'm really enjoying this series. So much so that I often revisit this book - the start of it all.

Angels and vampires

Again Nalini Singh comes up with a different slant to vampires and angels. In this world, the angel rule and make vampires and the Guikd hunts rogue camps who have not completed their 100 years of service to the Angels. I. The first of this series, Elena who is a hunter is estranged from her family and tasked by the Archangel Raphael to find another Archangel who has gone Rogue and she doesn’t have a choice. Raphael starts out cold as the North Pole but after being exposed to the snarky hunter he wants a little more than he should. As the bodies appear Elena is compelled to get this monster or die trying and it’s not like the vampires like her either.

Interesting concept, but paper cut-out romance

The idea of angels and vampires working for said angels was an interesting concept that drew me in. The writing was good enough to keep me going, too.

I was not a fan of all the relationships. They felt entirely superficial to me. Despite the little banter that Elena has with either of her two best friends, I felt like I was spoonfed their friendship. It was more told to me than shown. "I'm your best friend." "She's/He's my best friend." "We've been through alot." "They were family."

I found the romance shallow. Although I enjoy stories with a strong lead, the romance in this story between a human and a powerful archangel grew from the cliche that he found her stubborness "intriguing." Elena sounded like any ordinary strong-willed woman, so it made it extremely hard to believe that Raphael never encountered someone like her before in his loooong life. But it's a popular cliche enjoyed by many, so if you're into that, go ahead.

Overall, I didn't mind this book or the narrator.
