Publisher's summary

Kevin J. Anderson is the author of 27 national best sellers and several books in the popular Dune, Star Wars, and X-Files series. Forest of Stars is the second book in his acclaimed Saga of Seven Suns series, which begins with Hidden Empire.

Early in the 25th century, humans ignited a fierce war with the hydrogues. Now the gas-giant planets, once a major source of fuel for Earth, are off limits, and the fearsome hydrogues scour the solar system, incinerating humans and the trees of the worldforest. As political unrest spreads throughout Earth's space colonies, a possible ally is discovered: an ancient race of water-based creatures. But is it too late to stop the war?

Forest of Stars is a breathtaking science fiction epic, encompassing the power of galactic politics and the poetry of private dreams. Audie Award-winning narrator Geroge Guidall voices each character, whether human or alien, with dramatic intensity in a work that seems written for audio.

Critic reviews

"Best seller Anderson turns up the heat in his second Saga of the Seven Suns installment, proving he has firepower to burn. He weaves action, romance and science with a rousing plot reflecting the classic SF of Clarke and Herbert and the glossy cinematic influence of Lucas and Spielberg....This saga soars." Masterful storytelling

George Guidall's pauses convey substance and draw you into the reality born in Kevin Anderson's mind. When Guidall speaks, you understand the intent and nuance of each phrase. His performance surpasses mere reading just as a Salvador Dali portrait exceeds the emotional impact of a driver's license photo. Even with the huge cast of characters spread across multiple story arcs, I always knew who was speaking. He reads without getting in the way of the fascinating story and expresses great emotion without maudlin theatrics.
Did I mention that I like the way he reads?

Kevin Anderson gave Guidall material worthy of his talent. It is an epic of great imagination, emotion and fun. The many protagonists are relatable, likeable and intelligent; each has an internal life that resonates.

Terrific characters

The characters are continually developing throughout this story and build into a terrific saga. I'm really looking forward to the next part of this series.

Choppy & Shallow

I listened to books one, two and three, but by the time I was halfway through book two I realized I did not care about most of the characters nor their struggles. I suppose the reason I finished books two and three (besides the fact that I had used my credits on them) was to see if the series explained any of the larger mysteries it had hinted at.

The chapters were all pretty short, which resulted in little more than the feeling the author was telling you which characters went to where. It was a bit like someone recounting a chess match.

The societies were all stereotypes and simplified. Everyone from this character group is bad. Everyone from this character group is good.

Should be entitled

If you have ever listened to an abridgement and wondered what they did with all the parts they left out, this will clarify things for you. This book is comes off like all the left over parts from the first book. It's not much fun listening to the same story over again. The only thing that keeps me from giving this one star is the fact that it is my own fault for expecting this this to be a "book 2". If I had paid atention I would have realized that this is actually just "book 1 revisited".

Love sci-fi? This series is a must.

Randomly listened to the first book and after listening to this one, I definitely want to finish the series.

Very good but I was a little disappointed

This is book two of this series and it was written and read as well as the first book, but in the first book the focus was on the story and in the second we seem a bit more focused on the sexual lives of the characters and addition of more profanity. Maybe the writer thought that would spice the story up. Throwing refuse in a well made dish does not make the dish taste better.

What a Hack

Let me sum it by saying: "Turbo-charged spaceship.". That's the only way you can say, "Spaceship go fast?"
